We have a leather couch and recliner. They are getting ready to need replacement, although we've talked about fixing the holes in the leather for about $200-300.

I don't have a clue about what is good quality v. not so good. Leather sofas are a major investment, so I'd like to know what are the good brands and what are the not so good.

We have a farm house, so we don't go too fancy and given my size, I like sturdy! The couch has to be at least 6 feet long so I can lay down on it.

Not so good is anything from Jennifer Leather. I watched a segment on the news where they were sending stuff out and the leather was peeling. Very strange to see leather behave that way, but the tanning either did not take correctly or the leath used was subpar. If you will be spending that much money on seating, make sure you get a warranty as well.

I don't know brands but there is a fine upholsterer very close to me. A well made sofa/chair car seat will last a long time !

We've had a set of Flexsteel (Couch, Chair, and ottoman) for the last 7-10 years and they've been great. I do treat them with leather cleaner/conditioner 3-4 times per year. The chair sits next to a window and is starting to fade, but so far, so good.

We have a Lazyboy couch and recliner that must be 15 years old.
Recently had a reupholsterer (sp) replace the seat cushions.
Our dogs were pretty rough on them and 2 had ripped through.
Needless to say, they are no longer allowed on the couch.
The furniture has been super.
Very solid, no creaks in the recliner and it still works smooth as day 1.
Don't know what the new Lazyboy stuff is like, but ours is great.

Check out Natuzzi (http://us.natuzzi.com/), I had one of their couches for around 8-9 years and it still looks brand new, I don't think I've ever even used a leather conditioner on it. Just wet Bounty when my 2yo spills crap on it. I'm very impressed, it wasn't cheap but nothing cheap is worth buying if you really think about it.

Always check for the strong frames and try out the sofa which you are planning to buy in the showroom itself. Take only those which you are feeling comfortable in. In the case of choosing a leather furniture make sure it is good quality leather. In market there is a shocking trend of Bi-cast and bonded leather, which is a throw-away. Check out these links that might get you some idea about the types of leather and things one should know when looking for good leather furniture.

I have brought my leather condos from Coja in Toronto. They have a good collection of premium leather furniture.

+1 if you have an old lazi boy, rip it down to the wood and have it upholstered.

The old ones are tanks. New one's, not so much.
