Hey folks- we go camping every year to a place where we have to hike a 1/2 mile to a rustic cabin. My wife only goes because our toddler loves it so much. For Christmas I thought I’d get her a light weight camp chair because that would make her experience much more enjoyable- she’s even hinted at getting one at other times.

So what would you recommend? Light weight with back support are requirements, preferably slightly reclined, and arms and cup holder are nice but not required.

If you want one with back support, the Big Agnes Skyline UL chair is ultralight. I’ve switched to their stool which has no back support but is slightly easier to get up out of.

It's not a lounge chair but I use a Roll-a-Chair. It's light and slim for hauling or strapped to my pack and has a fold up backrest. It's more like a stool. About as comfortable as a folding stool can be. Definitely not a lounge chair experience. Keeps you off the ground and is strong. 2.5lbs.

Helinox makes some great chairs ranging from a pound. I have several.
The Zero looks great to me, but back support is lacking which my wife would hate. Do you have any experience with the savannah model?

Well thank you everyone for your recommendations- I seriously considered all contenders, but the Helinox Savanna wins. Again, thank you.

When comparing chairs, check the listed height of the seat. Lower seats like the helinox zero (8.5”) are harder to get up out of, especially on soft ground where the legs sink into the ground. There have been times when I’ve found it almost impossible to get out of the chair without falling out of it. Higher chairs like the REI flexlite air (11”) or REI camp boss (14”) are not only easier to get up out of but also provide a more “natural” sitting position. Especially If you have long legs (which I don’t), avoid the shorter chairs.

Great advice! Last time we went camping we took the chairs that we bought at City Furniture (these reviews persuaded me to make the purchase) and usually use them in the backyard. They are made of water and rust-resistant materials. But I want to buy a set of comfortable camping chairs for future trips, so thanks for your recommendations!
