Can someone help me with a good lube for knives with ball bearings such as the Spyderco Southard or the ZT 056X? I only ask because I usually use high speed pump oil, for my knives with washers, but I do not think it would work too well with these knives. I need something that will protect the balls from rusting, doesn't attract dirt and makes the flipping action smoother. Any suggestions? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Any oil you choose will attract dust and lint. I've never found an oil that doesn't do it. I have not put any oil in my Southard, and it's super smooth. If it ain't broke don't tweak it.

Well, Use skateboard oil, worked pretty well for me, skateboards have ball bearings and the oil used keeps the dirt away!

A miniscule amount of CRK ChristoLube will do the trick.

I don't recommend fluorinated grease. Every time I've tried to use it on any knife with bearings, it gums up the works terribly, no matter how much I use. A thinner lubricant is needed in my experience. Thin lube for bearings, thick lube for washers.

KFC chicken skin squeezins................................... or mineral oil.

Tuff-Glide. Goes on wet, but ends up as a dry lube. Doesn't attract dirt/lint/dust and protects against rust quite well.

^^ This. You really don't need anything in a bearing system, but if you must, use a dry lube.

Thinking of picking up a bottle of Tuff Glide, the dry lube sounds promising, although I read up on some good reviews of Rem oil and nano oil. Any one have experience first hand how these lubes are on the Southard after a long period?

I've been using DuPont dry wax lubricant. Smooth as silk. My 0561 has basically no friction now.

If you're a cyclist, use any high quality bicycle chain lube. It's proven to lube for long time at high speed of 40mph with a flick of a finger. lol :D

I use Eezox knife care on all of my blades. In my uses it's shown the best combo of lubrication, minimal lint attraction and rust prevention. It also has a needle applicator which comes in pretty handy.

I definitely agree with the other posters in saying that for a bearing system you'll want to use a very minimal amount. One well placed drop should do the trick.

I've heard great things about Tuff-Glide but it's one of the few well known lubricants that I have yet to use.

I use synthetic with no issues. Works great and very inexspensive. Pick up a 6oz. bottle on the bay and it will last you a long time. Mine came with a needle point applicator to squeeze into tight areas.
