good neck/belt knife for around $30

Just got the BK14 Eskabar. I absolutely love it. Got mine for $32 shipped on Amazon.

just got it off amazon. impatiently awaiting its arrival :P

i have plans of trying to make some micarta as a bit of an experiment on my Svord Peasant, i guess ill try to make a bigger slab :P

also, something i have been wondering, what's so special about kydex?

I'm ordering a kydex for mine tonight. An should I go for the factory Zyrtec or ESEE micarta? Any suggestions?

waterproof, scratch resistant, holds its shape will not stretch or shrink under normal conditions, low friction and can be very versatile. Neck knife sample

kydex just sounds like a hard plastic, which already comes with the knife. so i guess what i meant to say was why is kydex better than any other hard plastic?

Just realized my phone auto corrected me. Meant Zytel, not Zyrtec...
Yeah, a Zyrtec sheath would be pretty expensive and not very practical... as a sheath anyway... :p

Kydex is a scratch-resistant, impact resistant thermo-form plastic that is inexpensive and readily available in small quantities (sheath kits) at various thicknesses. The thermo-form aspect is key - a sheet of polymer can be molded into an acceptable sheath with minimal tools (heat-gun or oven and a press), it takes minimal time to heat and then cool for finishing. Compare that to injection molding a sheath from polymer beads that must be heated much higher to produce a fluid matrix and then forced into a mold of suitably strong material, de-molded, and then probably two separate molds must be fused to create a complete sheath - much more expensive and complicated (in regards to tools/energy required to make a custom sheath).

Is a kydex sheath superior to injection molded plastic? No, in fact in may be an inferior material (more susceptible to temperature changes, cracking, deformation, etc.), BUT it can my constructed to meet a user's specific needs where the factory-supplied sheath may not. For example, the BK14 factory sheath is rather wide and bulky as a neck-sheath, and modification may compromise its integrity. But a small piece of thin kydex could be folded over the blade to make a very slim, low-profile, lighter-weight sheath to accommodate such carry.

The factroy sheath dulls the blade on drawing/re-sheathing. You'll want something better.

They fixed the dulling issue with the sheaths FYI. Unless you get the older model which is possible if ordered off of Fleabay or the Amazon, then you should no longer have an issue with this.

or even my next knife :P i actually have my eye on some of those Condors :P
although i do think my Next knife is going to be the Remora, mainly for cutting apples and opening letters and stuff, because i do like to use my knives as a just about everything tool, and i dont really want to use my main blade for cutting food :P as it will most likly have some sort of gunk or atleast some sort of bacteria on it :P and im rambling again XD
