Good news about L6

I just got off the phone with a rep. from Carpenter Steel and they now produce AISI L-6 decarb-free plate in 1/4" and 3/8". Carpenter R.D.S. is pretty clean and consistent from what I've heard, and at least it gives the stock-removal guys another option besides Admiral's mystery L6.

Anyone working with Carpenter steel (especially L6) must take advantage of the excellent free literature they offer. Get the Advanced Tooling Materials plus Carpenter Matched Tool and Die Steels booklet. It's full of data sheets, heat treatment info, graphs, and other handy stuff.

I had the same problem; for some reason the technical information for R.D.S. is not available online. I emailed Carpenter about this and they offered to fax the information to me. I got their tool & die steel handbook instead and it's all in there .
