MADISON, Wis. -- Madison police are investigating a double homicide this morning in the 2800 block of Dahle Street, on the city's northeast side.

Numerous people called police to report gunfire around 10:30 p.m., News 3 reported. When officers arrived, they found one gunshot-wounded victim outside and another in a nearby apartment. Both were taken to the hospital, but died, police said.

Police are questioning a female who they said shot the men as they allegedly forced their way into her home.

Officer Laura Walker described the situation as "a home invasion and the people that forced their way in" the apartment got killed.

Walker said the female is not under arrest.

Autopsies on the two males will be done today, police said. :)

It's good to see a positive gun story for once.

But why is the lead line "Madison police are investigating a double-homicide" instead of "Resident thwarts home invasion". I guess it's technically neutral, but most people associate homicide with murder. Yes, she killed them, so it's homicide, but unless there's more here I highly doubt she'll be arrested on murder charges.

(On the other hand, I have to have some compassion for the would-be robbers. I'm sure it's not what they were expecting. And I hope they're not leaving anyone who really, really depended on them. Karma has ripples.)

Tohatchi?

You need to appreciate that Madison is best described as "15 square miles of city, surrounded by reality."

Annual migratory student population about 40,000 folks. Also, the State Capital, home of the endless discussion. A friend who lives there calls it "Fascist Liberal." VERY odd city.

The lady just may have done the whole world a favor. At least she had nerve enough to pull the trigger at the right time and they went straight. Pin a medal on her and send her home.:D

Yes, the men were armed and home-invading. No, she will not be charged.

However, it seems she may be charged with selling marijuana or drugs (report wasn't clear) from her home...which goes a long way in explaining both the home invasion AND her being in possession of a firearm and being willing to use it.

One explanation, yes, but a person doesn't need to be a drug dealer to require means for personal defense. Both of my parents work in local government jobs and have been subjected to terroristic threats at different times. All of the perpetrators were blowhards, but if they had been dumb enough to try to follow through, they would have been in for a big 12 gauge welcoming party.
