I am currently in Austin, TX and was wondering if their is anywhere that sells good knives?

I have lived in Austin for 35 years. There are no stores in town that have a good selection of quality knives that will come remotely close to the prices you can find online. Sad, but true. McBrides has been around forever, and they can get you just about anything you may fancy...just be sure your wallet is full.

Do you know of a good one in San Antonio too? If not it's only an hour or so to Austin...

They don't call it "McBride's house of retail prices" for nothing.
I do enjoy all the gorgeous shotguns on display, tho.

Sportsman's Warehouse in Round Rock has a large selection at competitive prices, and Cutting Edge, also in Round Rock, has a pretty good selection as well.

Where are they located. m. lovett

Sportsman's Warehouse is right off of IH35, at the 1325 exit I believe, in the same area with Target/Best Buy.
The Cutting Edge is in downtown Round Rock, in the main square.

mcbrides is horribly overpriced, full retail on everything, same on guns but at least on them they will work w/ya a little, not a place to buy a knife imho.

cutting edge in round rock is a nice little place mostly a gun store but lotsa knives too, and sam is a lot friendlier than mcbrides know it alls. and the prices are better, not like online but certainly a lot better than mcbrides, sam will also swap w/ya if ya have something he likes.

Everyone can't beat the largest discount, largest crooks in the USA. No McBrides can't beat Walmark, but then again they carry the very best products that can be had, You can't get that from some sweat shop in india, or pakistan, no matter how many made in the usa lables you put on them. Quality cost money. If we don't support the mom and pop stores around the country, all you'll have left is the poor quality products from the mega, ripp off chaines..Ever try to trade knives, or guns at wally-world. McBrides will negotiate. Who of the retail chains will. What can they special order for you. Mcbrides stands behind their offerings. With a VERY, well versed, and expierenced staff, that use the products, not just collect a minumun wage, with a don't give a damed attitude. But be ware. these boys know their stuff, try to bull=crap them, or be mister impressive big shot, they'll treat you like you deserve. Some might call it arrogance. I call it Knowing what the hell your talking about. Try getting advice on the best penetrating, flattest shooting round, for that once in a life time hunt in some distant land, at walmart, Yea Right, BUT It's cheaper. Cheaper always is. Cheap. but don't cry when you don't get what you expected, I'm treated very well at McBrides. I will buy from Jo, before any one else around central
Texas, and can be confident, I'm getting more than I paid for. Both Before and after my purchace. They'er a great bunch of guys!!!. Mike Lovett http://home.earthlink.net/~michaellovett/

i've known them since about '69, and bought only the lord knows how much stuff from them thru the yrs, and have bought several guns in the last few yrs, they will work with ya on the price (usually anyway) but i see no reason to pay about $170 for a BM axis AFCK when they can be had for around $110 or so. no reason at all.

as far as all the sales people being so smart i went in to get some 5.45X39MM ammo a few yrs back and they told me there was no such thing lol, all AK's fired 7.62X39.
