What has happened to the Buckmaster survival knife?

I last heard it's no longer in production.

I have two of this knife. One black and the other grey.
It's a little hefty but that's the way I like it.

Is Buck going to produce another similar to the Buckmaster or maybe an improvement on the old model?

I kinda doubt that Buck will produce the Buckmaster again in the near
future. You hit on a key reason why.....they weigh a lot for a survivial
knife. Plus if you really look at them honestly they were way overkill.

They were produced during the knife worlds Rambo period when hollow
handle knives were a big fad. Fads seldom factor in the reality of the need.
Not to mention that hollow handle knives that are not one piece are weak
at the joint. So no, I don't see the Buckmaster being offered again.

Yes, but they are cool looking! This has always been one of my favorite Buck knives for just that reason. My wife even bought me a mirror polished one for my 24th birthday, too many years ago.
But no, I don't see a reintroduction of this popular model any time soon. The tooling costs alone would be quite huge.

Darn, I love the Buckmaster. I'd love to see a revamped one come along. Maybe a one piece a la Chris Reeve? That would be something!

Does anyone know if they were ever shipped without the little pockets? I just don't remember mine comming with them. 'Course that was about 15 years ago. Heck, I don't always remember todays breakfast.
