Good Old Timers rehandled some of my favorites

I just wanted to take a moment at the end of 2015 and show some of my favorite Old Timers and Schrade Waldens that I just had a friend of mine rehandle for me in the month of Dec. 2015. The 3 together are Ivory 8OT, Genuine Stag 880 Kon Kav, and an 881 with Westinghouse yellow micarta that buffed out to ivory at bevels, beautiful. They all are new never use. Don't fret I have backups in all 3 in doubles at least. I just wanted some with different handle material. Some one asked me why do on a Schrade or Schrade Walden---I said why not, they are some of the best.

Nice knives. Could you please test and report as to whether the 858 is stainless or not? Hint: You cannot tell by the tang stamp. Thanks in advance!

Bucks, those are fantastic knives ! The 880 is a hard one to find with never used blades and it looks perfect in Stag.
Are these to carry & use ? May as well because even though you have 'improved' these knives the collectibility is lost as they are no longer 'factory'. So best to use & enjoy++ i think. Do you know who re-handled the 858 ? Stag does not exactly look like that used by Herman Williams, but it could be.
Re: 858, some are marked 858+ which would be stainless. TR you are saying then that Schrade snuck in some stainless in the ones marked as "858" ?
How can one tell without slicing an apple, etc. all of which will leave a telltale stain ?

So far, nobody has come up with one which is NOT shown to be stainless, even though the 'plus' sign is missing in the tang stamp. I guess any kind of moisture, preferably with an acidic component, such as citrus, apple, potato can be used to determine rust resistance. Dale Vincent (Orvet on the AAPK site) tells about a simple 'pen' type gizmo which can be purchased to instantly determine such characteristics but I can't dredge that information up on my computer for some reason. In fact, I can't find my coffee cup either right now.

Here is a Schrade Walden 165OT Shikari (Norm Thompson) re-handled in camel bone by Herman Williams.

I have not tried this test below, but have read about it on other knife forums. I would want to make sure I had the "right stuff" to remove the bluing. In reading about this test, it was suggested you use a very small q-tip to apply the bluing.

One other thing I have noticed is what happens when you try to apply cold blueing solution to stain resistant razors. Nothing! Whereas when you do the same to carbon steel razors, they blue, of course. Given that you can get blue remover from the same place you get blueing solution, that may be a nifty little test if you are ever uncertain.

Bucksforus (OP) That 80T with ivory scales in superb.

Thanks to all that have looked at my new toys--lol. I plan to carry all except the ivory and the 858.
A friend of mine within 5 miles of me did the 8ot. 881, and the 880. I have at least 2 back-ups in each pattern new in tube, or brown box.
The 858 I purchased and was told that a 3rd generation Ex Schrade employee did the work, and sent me a hand written card stating that the info was correct. I wanted to think that they were telling me the truth. After receiving the knife it sure looks like it was done right, but do the work my friend (Fletcher) looks factory also---very close tolerances on scales fitted to bolsters. He has also done a 25ot, and a 125ot for me in rams horn that looks as good as some I have from Herman. I will contact Herman and verify that the employee name is a match. I am sure he might know the name.
I will get pics of the folding hunters up later. Everyone have a safe and enjoyable week.

I have had and sold 2 with patina on them. I will see if I can find some of the bluing talked about here, and see if it works in an inconspicuous place. If you find out any info on the pen I sure would like to know. There is another stag 858 on the water place right now that has the +. Have a great Sunday.

I am sorry about getting back and answering some of the comments, but I just lost a very special adopted Aunt on the 1st, and still not my self. She was 88 years old, and it still hurts. I am 71 and losing a lot of friends and family the last year.

Love the bone handles on this one---looks like Dale did it. I have one of the Parker (Schrade made) rancher, and farmer in bone. Can't bring my self to carry to use. Sometimes carry with another user just to enjoy more. Oh I would cut some tape with it. lol. I would like to find a red bone factory, if I could afford. This one here is super nice though.

Harold, sorry to hear about your aunty.

This red bone knife had a big center pin crack in the bone, when I found it.
Dale did a good job on this one too.

The Schrade Red Bone set, I believe is the best bone handled Schrades I have seen. Ken
