We have all seen it on those cheap knives good old
STAINLESS ROSTFREI and CHINA
I decided to buy one of those this weekend just as a joke and they arent half ass bad..

They may not be super Strong but they are great for everyday use and experimenting with sharpening and stuff.

The main reason I bought it was because it was a CQC7 remake and it looked cool....

WELL, just thought you guys might want to know that it is a good knife for experimenting and dicking around with.....

I bought some made in China knives. My experiments? I attempted to set the handle on fire, repeatedly threw it at a tree, and tried to sharpen it on the sidewalk because I was too lazy to go get my sharpeners from inside the house and I was outside so I just wanted to see what it could do

. My other experiments involve trying to redo the heat treating with a bucket of water and a large refillable lighter and it probably ended up better off than it started with even though it looked a little black when I was done. Of course I would never do this to a Taiwanese knife, just a Chinese one, I don't mutilate products from my homeland nor from the country I'm currently a citizen of (USA).

I get those flea market specials as gifts from relatives etc. They are good to have when you're still practicing sharpening. I really like one plastic-handled butterfly knife. It's quick, lightweight, cheap and easy to sharpen (but it won't hold the edge for long).

Two important questions in life:
Do they have a catalog?
Did you know there's a town called "Batman" in Turkey?

I like to use the cheap stuff for patterns. Grind the handle off and change the profile to what you like. Sometimes having somthing bad around will help you see what good design should be. Rex

On a lark, I bought the first balisong offered on the bladeforums auction. It was a cheap Rostfrei China and I didn't expect much. I was pleasantly surprised. I'm still banging that thing around practically every day. The edge is crap, but he handles are reasonably tight, lock up well, the pins are holding up well, the joints move well. Not bad, not bad at all for something like $8.

Balisongs -- because it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing!

For just a couple of bucks more, try one of
the Master brand knives. They are well
constructed for the $ and most of them
have some pretty decent blade-steel. If you
want to practice some home-customizing, they
have screws, not pins. I just bought a full
sized spike for $12.50, and this knife has
the perfect blade geometry for someone who
wants to perfect his sharpening skills
before tackling his higher-end knife.
