A co-worker of mine is wanting to buy an elk hide for a project. I think he wants to make a vest and some chaps...

Does anyone know of a good supply source? I've sent him to Tandy already... just wondered if there were any other places out there.

Thanks!

Yes...but it may be by town. I have found leather supplies in a number of towns, but you have to hunt them out.

I have been using Tandy as my source of leather and accessories for as long as I can remember. Good range of supplies and prices, and prompt shipping.

Yup, I was going to check my bookmarks for the url but aliloff beat me to it. :D
I can't recommend Moscow Hide & Fur highly enough. Their hides and furs are very well described and I have been very satisfied with everything I ever purchased from them. The cased otter fur I got from them made one of the prettiest otter drags for a Southern Straight Dance Outfit I and a lot of other folks have ever seen.
This otter was skinned by a master craftsman and the area around the eyes is one of the most difficult and on mine they were skinned around in such a way that I was able to sew a couple of round black beads in the eye sockets so that it looks almost like it is still alive.  :D
When I was dancing all the time I always was complemented on it.:)
And I am not alone in feeling that they are top shelf as all the ndns I know of that has bought from them have all been very satisfied.

If you don't mind following up, siegel of california is cheap as dirt. You gotta follow up though, their service aint top notch.

Thanks all for the links. I've passed on the information and have bookmarked them for myself too :)
