Cold weather gets me thinking about places to visit in the spring time. Fishing, hiking, stopping at a new place to grab a good meal, camping or just general poking around. Staying off of the main interstates and highways, you find a lot of different places that, especially ones that aren't crowded ;).

I live in central northern MD, and my stomping grounds are most of MD, southern central PA and DE. I've posted a thread similar to this one before, but I couldn't find it. That thread had some great ideas, some of which I've visited. If you had a good time there, post it (remember, this is Community, not WC :D).

I am primarily looking at day trips, like a Saturday or Friday, and while I want to hear your recommendations, I am not looking for any hustle bustle. Want to stay away from the crowds.

On the eastern shore-Blackwater wildlife refuge. Some hiking trails, lots of nature watching, and in winter its a spot for eagle spotting.

The Assateague Island National seashore.- Hiking, getting into the backcountry for overnight backpacking. But only before May or after September. There's backcountry canoe in campsites that are remote if you don't want to walk in. Let the boat carry the stuff.

If you make it out to the shore, eat at the Captains Galley on the other side of the Commercial docks in O.C.

In Hagerstown there's the Washington County Museum Of Fine Arts. Free admission. Some good stuff in there.

I'm going to have to check out the museum when I go to the new Mason Dixon knife show. There's a little place next to the Captains Galley called Harborside. Jerk chicken, hard cider and a game of pool.
