I think it's time to replace my EDC light. While my Infinity Ultra has been a reliable daily companion the past few years, it doesn't work as well as it used to. I want to get another light to take its place. Do you guys have any recommendations?

Here are my requirements -
Must comfortably fit in the pocket (anything from an ARC AAA to an Infinity Ultra is fine size wise)
Must have an aluminum body
Must be LED
Price is preferably < $30

Thanks for the help.

Fenix P2D

- Very bright
- Selectable brightness means long battery life at low output levels
- LED (try to get the premium Cree version)
- Runs from 1x CR123
- Aluminium
- Clicky tail cap
- Fits in my pocket well!
- Cheap!

As a side note, The P2D only comes in cree emitter although the premium is a Q5 bin cree which is brighter (Unless you meant the rebel emitter? But then again, the rebel isn't standard emitter either.).

Since you liked the Infinity Ultra I would recommend the Fenix E01. The L0D is also very nice but isn't regulated as well and it's pretty pricy. On the plus side its much brighter with many modes. But if you don't need the super brightness, want a super tough light, and amazingly long regulated run time then I say get the E01.

The Fenix are nice , also quite nice is my newish Streamlight Microstream.
Slimmer and bit shorter than my Fenix , very lightwieght and very cost effective , plus Streamlights customer service is top notch.

edit - also meets all of your criteria. :D

Why not another Ultra? I am thinking about getting one myself and want to know if they are as good as they always were.

Rebeltf : that also looks like a good possibility. Might have to get one of those also.

BTW: just a thought - I have a Fenix, bought over a year ago. Do I want to send more money to China so they can increase their oil purchases ????
(Yes, I am hoping these 2 lights are made in the USA or at least mostly)

You might try the Inova X1. I have had reliability issues with previous versions but the latest seems solid so far. It is $20-30, can be found at your local Target, and, last I checked is Made in the USA. Nice little light IMO. The latest version, iirc, says "2.0 Watt LED" on the packaging.

In the ArcAAA and Infinity Ultra class/level of light there is currently one "overwhelming" choice - Fenix E01 it's $15 shipped and comes in different colors.

What is more important - the advance in LED efficiency allows this light to run for a total of 21 hours (11 hours constant brightness) on a single AAA alkaline - this is more than double the now legendary ArcAAA and at about the same level of brightness as the ArcAAA-Premium.

Fenix E01 Comparison Review

At a higher price but more versatile - Fenix L0D-Q4 - has three levels of light 30 Lumens(3.5hrs) -> 11 Lumens(8.5hrs) -> 75 Lumens(1hrs) -
75 lumens is brighter than those "ultra bright" xeon/lithium lights like the SureFire 6P/G2 and Streamlight Scorpions or a Mag 3D - and on just a single AAA battery.

Hope that helps -

X2 the Fenix EO1. I bought one to replace my missing ARC AAA. As much output as an Inova in much easier size, fits the pocket without falling over and punching my thigh. Great service from the store, got it in two days from the coast in the US Mail. Whoda thought?

Does anyone know of an alternative to the Arc AAA and Inova X1 which is manufactured in the USA?

Both the Arc-AAA and Inova X1 are made in the USA...

Peak LED lights and Photonlights are made in the USA as well.

I just got my NightCore EX10 from Fenix-Store today. It lets you set the brightness yourself and uses one CR123 battery. There is also an AA version. It is very well made, with machining and build quality that appears to be on par with Surefire, and a pseudo "clickie" switch that should prove to be much more reliable. I am very happy with it so far. $59. Here's the product announcement: http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showpost.php?p=2174427&postcount=1

My favorite pocket light is my Romisen RC-C3 w/Cree. I like it so much I ordered 3 more :) . I think I paid around $20 ea. It uses 1 cr123 battery and I get around 1 hour of continues use. One thing you might want to look into is a cr123 charger. I have one pluged into my truck at all times.

Another vote for the LOD though it is $15 more than your requirement. Having the 75lumen output has come in handy. Much easier for me to pocket carry than the 'relatively' fat CR123 lights.
