The most expensive knife that I've ever flat out bought, was a Larry Chew D/A Spitfire($650), great knife, Great Maker, but had problems with it from the get go (but would still LOVE to own another, probably will). Owned a Steve Ryan folder, and bought it for a Great price, and sold it for a much greater price 
. I must say, because of the forums, I've owned a lot of very nice knives. Too bad buying and selling is such an addiction for me, not really sure if I'm a collector
