Howdy all! I've got a few of these, and they are by far one of my favorite patterns. I'm just wondering what you all felt were the best splitback whittlers being produced? I don't know that many production companies are making these at the moment. Case, Queen, Mooremaker (?),... who else? Which ones do you like? I've got the itch to pick up another one. Any suggestions? I'm looking for the traditional kind with 3 blades where the main blade rides on the springs from the other blades. Thanks!

Sincerely,
Anthony

seeing as they're made by queen, would you rather get a Mooremaker? Just to ask,

Sincerely,
Anthony

Case and Queen are the only US companies to make them. As has been mentioned, the Queen in D2 is great, and it's available in several handle materials.

Case makes the '83 pattern...they seem to change the offerings from one year to the next as far as handle options...now its stag-bone and case bros brown bone.

Moore Maker would be an excellent choice, I have been toying with getting one of them....it's got IMHO the perfect blade combo, large clip, small clip, and coping...and its carbon steel....Big Bend Saddlery discounts Moore Makers but they don't stock that one - don't know if they would special order it or not...of course MM's good knives are made by Queen.

Winchester Knives makes excellent quality knives. I have a split back whittler with stag that's a real gem. Bluegrass cutlery is the jobber and I believe Queen makes the knives.

The Queen produced Winchesters distributed by Blue Grass are schweet. I am not enamored by some whittlers that actually have two backsprings rather than "split" backsprings with a tapered spline in the middle. Some of the Schatt and Morgan whittlers I have are made with the "split" backsprings and others are made with two backsprings. All the Winchesters I have seen have the split backsprings and are on par in quality with the S&M line. If you can find a Case Classic at a decent price they are excellent also.

So does Bluegrass cutlery sell direct or do you have to go through a dealer? I went to the website, and didn't see anything that would allow me to buy from the site. Did I miss something?

Sincerely,
Anthony
