I am looking for a good sharpener that is easy to use on many types of outdoor knives. I dont want a big rod and block sharpmaker or a series of wet stones for my purpose. I will be sharpening a few Buck hunting knives aswell as some Rapala fillet knives.

So maybe a easy to use sharpener with two settings like coarse and fine. Also maybe one that allows me to change out rods or grinding wheels when they are used up. Nothing too expensive please, just something that would work well with some hunting and fishing knives. Thanks

I recommend a Lansky Medium and Fine stone or Fine and Super Fine. I believe the kit costs around 35 dollars, and is quality. If you are looking for something more simple an arkansas hard and soft stone sharpening kit works well, they cost 15-20 dollars. Be diligent about oiling though, if you don't filings will smooth out the pores in the stones and wear them out.

In the field, I use a small diamond rod from EZE LAP. It looks like a short pen with a pocketclip and cap.

There are some credit card sized diamond sharpeners that have two different grits on either side. I used to have one, don't remember who made it. But it was nice if you wanted medium and fine grits in a small package.

$45 grinder motor with the Razor sharp paper wheels, also about $45. $100 will get you hair whittling sharp, and dull to that sharp in about 3 minutes time, if you are slow.:D

I also like to use stones, and develop good muscle memory for hand sharpening, but if you are edgy, get the paper wheel set up. It is worth it.
