After i get my BM mini-grip i will be looking for a good scoutknife i already have my mind set on an engraved customized buck 110 with stag handles and a BTS-34 blade. What other knives would you recomend. It must be a folder and no SAK's or Leathermans please, they are too obvious. sheeple friendly would help but is not required.
Thanks.

I'm a 15-year-old Life Scout from Troop 106 in Bucyrus. I went to Philmont this summer...I read one of your earlier posts saying you were headed that way...have you been yet? Anyways, I think the engraved, customized Buck 110 is not the best Scout knife. The stag handles will get beat up, the blade is heavy, it doesn't have a convenient clip (good luck finding a good, convenient spot to lash those leather sheaths on your packs with), and if you lose it you will be out something special. I highly recommend the Spyderco Military, which is really light weight, holds an edge forever, and has great materials---S30V and G10. It has a clip and decent sized blade, but not one that's over 4" (official measurement is 3-13/16"). It has a choil in the highly ergonomic handle to choke up on the tip and has a very utilitarian blade shape and a flat great---great for camp chores, slicing, etc. It also has a lanyard, so put parachute cord through it and attached it to your belt as a secondary precaution when you do the crazy things we Scouts do like rappel, mountain climb, kayak, etc. If you need a very "sheeple-friendly" blade, the Para-Military is its little brother---about two-thirds size, with the same materials, quality construction, and great ergos.

What does that mean, too obvious? You might find that in a scouting/camping situation, they're "obvious" because they're DAMN USEFUL. :jerkit:

they are too obvious because everyone suggests them.

Also that buck 110 will be more of a collectors piece, i should not have put it on here in the first place.

Just go for a standard 110 or 112, they're good knives and you won't be so bothered if you were to lose one of them instead of a custom.

By the way, everyone suggests SAKs because they work and do more than just cut. Get a Victorinox silver alox farmer, trust me.

i Know that i just did not want to read through another 20 SAK suggestions like i did with my philmont knife question. Spyderco it is so far then.
