Hi all

Since my last post appeared a bit too general for this sub forum, here's one that I hope is more on track.

I'd like to pick up some nice knives while in San Francisco & Las Vegas in Dec. Can anyone suggest a shop or few where you can see before you buy?

Cheers
Matt

Tad Gear in S.F. Strider knives and more. Check out their website for directions.

In the San Francisco area you have a few places.
On Pier 39 (tourist trap but still nice) is We Be Knives. I bet their prices are pretty much MSRP but they have a good selection.
If you go to wine country then check out Sonoma Cutlery in Santa Rosa.
There is a a little shop in Oakland called the Shaver and Cutlery Shop that has a good selection of Spyderco,Kershaw and Benchmade.
I think there is a cutlery shop in the Culinary Academy of California (SF) but I have never been there.
There are several REI stores (SF, Berkeley) that have some knives mostly SAK, Leatherman with a few BM Grips and a few Spydercos.

Make sure you go to Alcatraz. It is actually pretty cool even the self guided tour is cool. Make reservations you will not be able to walk up and get a ferry ticket the same day.

Enjoy your trip.

There's a great little shop in Vegas run by Lynn Bonds/Bonds House of Cutlery. Yes it is a bit more expensive... It's on Sahara not too far west of the Strip. PM me for more details.

Jackson Hardware in San Rafael is a Case Gold dealer. Decent selection. Some other brands. They are about 10 minutes North of San Francisco across the Golden Gate. Good Carhartt selection also. Down in Carmel is Carmel Cutlery and they have a decent selection of items. Awesome area overall. They just a few more cutlery dealers in the area.
Sincerely, Jay

:) I hope to be opening my own cutlery shop soon in the SF bay area, but it's not quite ready yet, so you may have to come and see me on your trip next year. :D

Cheers

I was in the Berkley Store.
At least $10 more expensive than online
So once you pay shipping you get to wait 3-7 days for your knife and you save what? $4.00?

Wilderness Exchange across the street sometimes has some knife deals. They sell closeouts and random deals but they had some of the last US Schrades in the general area and even had some Cammilus Army knives. Who knows what they have now.

Jay,
I visited Jackson Hardware; disappointing. They have a decent selection of knives but their Case selection seemed to be mostly collector stuff. I called and asked if they had two current CV models in stock. I got a yes and when I drove over there I found out they had wasted my time. They had a ton of Baby Docs and knives with fancy handles but no Yellow CV etc.
