I am looking to pick up a new pocket knife reference book. The one I have is a little out of date and excludes some knife manufacturers. I believe it is a Parker and was printed in the 70's. Any reccomendations on one that isn't too hard to find and doesn't cost a whole lot? I would like to be able to identify older American, German, and British pocket knives. Pics are a plus to any reference book and I love it when they give you a history of the company. Which do you use?

I just picked up "The Official Price Guide to Collector Knives: Fifteenth Edition," by C. Houston Price and Mark D. Zalesky. It's very big on slipjoints and even offers information about different patterns with pictures and everything. Very thorough book.

My favorites are ones already mentioned and Bernard Levin's books (up to and including edition 4). Books by Jim Sargent also are quite informative. Since most of these books are quite inexpensive (other than the out of print books by Bernard), it is not a bad idea to gather a few for a good rounded base of information rather than relying on one.

The few I have I enjoy for different reasons;

Levines 4th (very thorough with lots of general illustrations, background info and B&W pics.)
Sargent's 5th (which focuses very heavily on CASE knives)
Voyle's IBCA Price Guide to Commemm. (I rarely ref it anymore but it is good to have for that genre)

I would like to have more but I need to pick up the new Price/Zalesky book first.
