Im going on a trip to canada for a little over a week in the beginning of june. Im going to be carring my gerber lmf. obviously a combo edge. And the knife will be working pretty hard while were there. And size counts there isint room for anything that isint necessary. anyone recommend a good sharpener for at least the plain edge part I have a little pocket sharpener for the serrated part if it needs it. Didint know if the little gerber sharpener would work ok for it you know the little one you just run your knife through. Any thoughts.- Joel

The blue thing that looks like a pen is a diamond rod that sharpens serrations, PE and fishhooks/darts. It's about as thin as your average pen and has a pocket clip. The company is "smith's" and I got it from house of knives (Canadian chain) for $15.

Which part of Canada are you going to? Just curious.

Take a look at the Spyderco 701 profile stone sets. The set consists of fine and medium grit ceramic hones that have surfaces making them ideal for plain edge and serrated edge sharpening that is ridiculously easy to put a spooky sharp edge on virtually any edge. The other choice I'd point you to is the DMT Diafold ceramic serrated sharpener (pointed ceramic Diafold) also a dual role sharpener that does a nice job with very little effort.
