Good Source For Positive Pressure Respirator?

The time has come for my big purchase. Who could suggest a good source for a positive pressure respirator? I prefer a half mask rather than full face.

Please also suggest specific brands, types and names/model numbers of filters, and any other valuable info. I plan to buy a couple batteries and a quick charger, if that's available. I need one that I can wear for a full day once in a while.

Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated, especially first-hand experience if that's possible. I have a beard and a mild case of COPD, so this is pretty important! A regular respirator just won't seal.

Thanks!

I purchased a 3M AS400 from Airware America that I'm really happy with. The caveat is that I haven't been exposed to much more than CF in the short time I've been grinding with it. It's certainly comfortable, though.

Gabe, excellent! I looked up their website and on the home page is this great looking Airshield visor. It's a full face mask that can flip up out of the way. It has a 4 hour battery and can add another 4 hour battery on system for 8 full hours of work. This looks absolutely perfect, and what's best is it's about half the price of other systems I've looked at. I'm going to call them today and will add my notes here this evening.

Thanks a lot Gabe, this looks ideal.

Dave

Edited to add: Here's their website: Airware America

Dave, I don't know if you are referring to their Power Visor because it is only good for nuisance level particles. I would want more protection and would consult with 3M before purchasing. I copied the text form the Airware America site just to clarify.

"Power Visor

The Power Visor has a motorized fan which draws the surrounding air through the nuisance dust filter located in a compartment at the forehead area. The filter removes nuisance dust particles, and the filtered air flows down over the face. The continuous flow of filtered air gives a cooling effect and keeps the visor fog free. Excellent for woodworkers, gardeners, chain saw users, lawn mowing, and dozens of other projects in and around the house."

Am I missing something, or does a full "paticulate and organic vapors" system cost a bit over a grand?

Andrew, you might be right, I'll give them a call. Fitzo, yep. This stuff is expensive, which was why I was so excited about the first unit.

i bought the AS200 system, in hind sight i would get the AS400. i am happy with the AS200 i just feel that it's like the grinder motor thing that its best to get all you can. its a whole new level of comfort not wearing a mask:) www.airwareamerica.com
