Good source for spacers, calipers, and torx?

After talking to my local knife shop guy I have decided to finally do a little tinkering I guess you could call it. Now I need a good price source for a torx driver (spelling?), calipers - cheap as possible, and spacers.
Why? Well, I want to fancy up my CRKT liner locks. Since I consider myself mechanically challenged, I hope I won't regret it. I thought I might start by replacing the spacers -- assuming I can find some "fancier" looking ones. No idea where to look for these items. I just have a vague notion of wanting to do a little bit to give mine a more "custom" look for little money, and something I can do myself. -- Just considering linerlocks right now to experiment on.

You should be able to find the tools themselves at Lowes or Home Depot, or pretty much any hardware store. I found a torx driver set there that has worked very well for me. . . it has interchangeable bits that store inside the handle and there is a spinner on the end of the handle like on a precision screwdriver set. www.knifekits.com seems to be a good source for specialized parts. I haven't ordered anything from them yet but lots of folks on the forums have recommended them.

If you can purchase all the things you need from a "general" source as opposed to a "specialized" source. Usually you'll save a lot of cash. Example: Knifekits wants $6.95 for the T-8 & T-6 combo set that looks like a knucklebuster waiting to happen. Sears craftsman T-6 driver was $3 with a nice comfortable handle.

Also you can get a caliper for as little as $10 but that is an item I'd pay a little more to better quality.

There are a couple of companies that I use professionally who are also willing to sell to the "home user".

One is MSC industrial supply. (http://www1.mscdirect.com).

Their catalog is enormous. The search facility is your friend. If you order from them, see if you can get them to send you a hard-copy catalog. I don't know if they do that for home users because it's bigger than Texas.:D

Another is Small Parts (www.smallparts.com). I would give their online catalog a B.

Both companies provide great service.

The Husky brand 8-in-1 Torx driver set at Home Depot is about $6 and it is much better than the Craftsman drivers I had. Your life might be made better by a drill press and some clamps if you're making your own spacers.

Does the 8-in-1 use different bits for each size? The ones I bought are like these: Craftsman torx drivers.

I like having a separate driver for each size. Harder to lose a one than it is a bit.

No. They're double-sided bits. Like one side might be T5 and the other is T8. My Craftsman individual bit drivers broke at the handle. Exasperating when you're 40% through reassemling a folder and need to hit the store again.

Thanks. I've had mine about a year or so and used them to assemble a couple of kits. I haven't had any trouble so far.
