Howdy There....!
If you are wanting to get started into knife making, get ready to spent some money for equipment. You can start out on a low budget, but it will take you long to accomplish task doing things by hand. There are several companys that carry all types of supplies and equipment. "Knife & Gun Supply", "Sheffield Knifemakers Supply", "Texas Knife Supply", "Jantz Knife Supply", and "Koval Knife Supply" are just a few that carry the supplies you would need, and most of these have websites with online cataloges. Good luck with your purchases and knifemaking.

Later "Possum"

Harbor Freight is a good source for some lower cost basic equipment. You sometimes get a junker with them but I've gotten good stuff from them alot more often than bad stuff. They have a drill press on sale right now for $39.99, be a good starter drill press. You can buy a nice 6 by 48 belt disc sander for around $175. Thats good for lots of handle work, flat grinding blades, smoothing out barstock and such. Don't buy any of their sanding belts or paper though, it's pure garbage. Best place to buy belts and sand paper is either GL Pearce Abrasives, 1-800-938-0021, or Pop's Knives and Supplies ( James Poplin), 1-706-678-5408.He has a web site now but I lost the link.

Theres a good place to buy hand tools and drill bits or end mills and lots of other things.
A while back someone was putting together a supplier links page. Not sure if they ever got it done but if you check the Shop Talk archives from the second year you should be able to find the thread and get lots of good supplier links from it.
Heres some web sites that you can check out.
