I am curious as to what sources come up to be the top of the line material for European swordsmanship. I am interested in everything, from rapier, the bastard sword, to cavalry saber. I just want a good list of what is good and recommendable.

Thanks.

There are various fechtbooks (Talhoffer - Medieval Sword , Di Grassi - Italian Rapier, Silver - English Sword and Buckler amongst other things etc.) as well as manuals for saber and so on. I would suggest asking this sort of question over at Sword Forum and Myarmoury.com. You will undoubtedly get all the answers you can handle.

I too am interested in this. I have committed to studying historical saber fencing for a couple of years now, and all I have come across has been “cold steel” by Hutton, and a Hungarian saber manual and a couple of other tid-bits here and there. More or less everything on www.thehaca.com that has to do with the saber.
Does anybody know of any other good material, (or any material) out there that has to do with historical fencing with the saber?

Thanks.
P.S. Cold steel has a dvd on the use of the saber. Does anybody have any experience with this at all? I am curious if it is worth the investment.

I don't know about that video in particular but I have to say anything coming from cold steel is a little suspect in my book. If they knew a lot about swords one would think that they would make better ones...
