Hi everyone. I am new to knife making and am currently building my workshop. I need some advice on which 2 x 72 grinder (available in UK/Ireland) I should be looking at. I have noticed a lot of the recommendations on sites point to US grinders.

Any help is much appreciated.

We're in the metric part of the world, you want a 50 X 2000 machine.
That's what you'll find in Europe.
I have one from Claryx, it's top notch and a friendly guy.

Another thing to think about is building your own, if you've got the skills and equipment to do so. It can be significantly cheaper, if you don't count your time!
As with all things, it's cheaper to buy a quality product, if you value your time at a reasonable "shop rate".

Bottom line, if you are doing this as a hobby and you enjoy building things, make your own. Take your time doing it and really make yourself a quality product. I made my first grinder and. It works great, but the tracking is just ok. I wish I had taken more time and really ensured that I did it right. It cost me about 150$ or so, cause I got the steel for free. Plus the VFD, a total of about 650$ or so.

I have thought those Claryx grinders looked very nice.

There is also beltgrinders.pl, Batkovic, and Salus Production. Also a French company (Lions or similar!?) H HSC /// has their machine I think?

They are all good machines to start with I think but you get what you pay for.

Dictum sells a belt grinder as well and there is another (Slovenian) grinder called G20.

I no longer have the lions process. The new current one is a shogi belt grinder from Bulgaria. You can find them on FB
