I've been ordering from Jantz Supply for the last few months, mainly because I didn't know what other suppliers out there could be trusted with a purchase via credit card.

What suppliers are good folks, honest, trustworthy, and worth looking into?

What are your primary and favorite suppliers (materials, parts, tools, etc.)?

Thanks. :)

So far I like texasknifesupply.com, for odds and ends parts. They're quick and decently priced.

And I've only used Kelly Cupples for steel, and I have no reason to look anywhere else so far.

Burl Source (Mark) is the man for wood too, the man is simply amazing!

Ive ordered most of my stuff from Alpha Knife Supply, they are salt of the earth. They have my loyalty. I got some stuff from Uncle Al's too and no complaint.

I have ordered from Jantz (micarta, pins and liners), USAknifemakers (belts) and Knifemaker.ca (belts and books). All are very good suppliers. With your name you could be anywhere, fill out your profile and maybe someone can give you a close supplier.

Aldo Bruno for steel

He's one of us and I have bought several hundred pounds of the 1084 he had custom manufactured, I have bought some 1095 from him as well. Great steel, great guy, his website was not fully built last I looked but it has a contact page. Email him and ask about what you want, give him a little time to get back to you, he's got a day job.

Kelly Cupples (octihunter@charter.net) is a good supplier too, I have gotten 15N20 and 1084 from him, shipping is free on orders over $100 last time I ordered from him

For abrasives and other supplies, USA knifemakers, operated by Tracy Mickley who is another well known guy on the forums here

Texas Knife, Knifekits, USAKnifemaker, admiral steel and Tru-grit get my business so far.

I've had great experiences with most suppliers. There's only one guy that's stiffed me on an order and he was already mentioned here. I keep hoping he'll make good on my order but it's been 2 years and he ignores my requests so I'm starting to lose that hope.

GREAT SUPPLIERS (in my experience)

Kelly Cupples
Alpha Knife Supply
Midwest Knifemaker Supply
BurlSource
Knife and Gun Finishing Supply
Tru Grit
Texas Knife Supply
Riverside Machine (Uncle Al)
Beaumont Metal Works
Mold Shop Tools dot Com

I'm sure there's more but my brain is tired right now.

There are many places folks that supply just one or a couple of things, and are pure gold... Like Mastersmith John Perry and his handle broaches and file guides.

Unlike most industries seem to be, the knife making industry is build around good, honest, hard-working people. The ones who aren't don't last at all.

pop's knife supply for handle material $20-25 for stabilized maple burl, $12-20 for 12"by12" micarta, handle bolts, etc.

Admiral Steel for, well, steel

Not specifally a knifemaking place, but MSC industrial supply sometimes has good deals on tools and other fun stuff. They carry Starrett precision-ground O1 which is really nice to work with. Their email list is actually worth signing up for (lots of "coupons" discounts, etc.)

Nick is correct. There are lots of good suppliers.

Keep in mind, I am a supplier. I have worked with and/or bought items from the following competitors:
Beaumont Metal Works
Burl Source
Chad Nichols Damascus
Kelly Cupples
Devon Thomas Damascus
Darren Ellis
GiraffeBone.com
Halpern Titanium
Knife and Gun Supply
Riverside Machine
Rob Thomas Damascus
Pop's Knife Supplies
SBI Metals
Texas Knife Supply
Tru Grit
WSSI

We know most of these people personally. Some are good friends. We frequently send knifemakers to the suppliers listed above.

There are only a few who I do not recommend and I will not list their names.

They're in Canada, but I've ordered a couple times from Rob at Knifemaker.ca. I've been really happy with him and his knowledge of the materials.

Actually, my name is my location. TwinCities - as in the Twin Cities USA (Minneapolis & St. Paul, Minnesota USA). ;)

Thanks for the recommendations so far. What would make it easier to navigate through these suppliers would be catalogs. Do any of the suppliers listed have and send out catalogs upon request?

Just make sure if you go with MSC deal with them directly, do not buy from them through amazon.

Hey Chuck wassup

you got my vote for sure. I think I owe you a phone call.

Another one that should be added is Sheffield Supply.

Ann's a little more work to deal with since you have to pick up the phone and call her, but she has things no one else does and very good service.
