Good survival folder?

my advice.....a victorinox swisstool spirit multitool. if weight is a problem and you want something lighter: a victorinox one handed trekker.....

Multi tools are great, I love to have a leather man with me. I'm mainly talking about a Single bladed tool such as a Emerson CQC-8 (witch I EDC) but has advantages to it like the Surefire dose.

I realize that wrenches are sort of useless in a survival situation unless your stranded with a motorbike or a car of some sort. If this knife had uses like a magnesium stick or a striker on it. Or any simple item for a forest survival or camping situation it would be alot better. Its still a great EDC (in my mind) for use if you do work outdoors or like to be outdoors. Because you can loosen varing sized nuts with the side of the handle and some hex type. I just hope the titanium dosnt get mared or bent up  .

I'd pay that kind of money for a good recurve, but not for that knife. There are some awesome blades out there for a lot less money than you are willing to spend. But hey, if you got it to spend and want that knife, go for it. Heck, I was overjoyed when my Victorinox Bundeswehr issue utility knife arrived and it cost $30.00.:D

I'm happy when every knife gets to my door :D . I love surefire and It seems like a great package. I just hope Surefire knows how to make a knife.

Unfortunately, Surefire, like Cold Steel knives, may not make their own product. Odds are, they farmed the manufacturer of the knife out, but I could be wrong.:foot:

Could be the case but thier knives are very high quality. I have one of their Alphas and It is great start to finish.

Spyderco "Manix" (either length)
Ontario Hossum "Retribution" (Model II if your hand's not to large to fit)
Lone Wolf Harsey "Ranger"

All are built strong, but they are heavier than a comparable size fixed-blade -- that would be inherently stronger and available in more choices of steel, blade shape, handle material, sheath.

I wouldnt rule out one of the SALTs here either. The seeming inability to gather rust and ease of sharpening on just about anything would be a major boon it seems.

Get a Buck 110. You can't go wrong. Or is it the 119? I'm not sure, but it's a good folder. Mine was razor sharp right out of the box. Oh that I had not lost the sucker. :grumpy:

If you want a beefy folder, get a Buck 110. One of the tougher folders out there, pretty good grind, great corrosion resistence and easy as hell to sharpen on rocks. If you must have something more modern, a Spyderco Endura, D'allara or Manix would do nicely. All three are very tough, capable folders.

If you want something to do more than just cut, get a mid-sized SAK. I don't care for multitools because I never have much use for pliers in the woods and they add a lot of extra weight. If you prefer multi-tools, the Vic one or a Wave would do fine. Otherwise look into SAK Farmers, One Handed Trekkers, Hunstman etc.
