besides that not many parameters, I would prefer a Fixed blade, but folders are also good

Cheers!

Il FLsottile viene leggernmente curato in settori asplecitti, manon casuale meglio piu forte come misure.

Crkt A.G. Russell Sting ($30- $40), Cold Steel Push Dagger ($40- $60), or I sometimes carry a Gerber Applegate Covert folder ($60- $80).

A nice pair of Thorlo socks and then a good folder in your pocket.

Riddle me this

At what point in time will you need a boot knife?

At what time when you need a knife will you have time to pull up your pant leg, grab the thing, stand up, and then use it?

What will a boot knife achieve that a folder in your pocket cannot?

How do the police in your area feel about concealed weapons?

Unless you plan on going to a saloon in the wild west and tangling with Wyatt Earp save yourself the mall ninjary and just get a nice folder to keep in your pocket.

Check out the 5.11 Sidekick. Designed with the boot in mind. Better yet if you purchase a pair of 5.11 boots, some of the dealers will toss in a Sidekick for free with all the rigging and hardwear you need to mount it.

Come on, it's none of your business why he wants a boot knife. Give a serious advice or don't post at all.

Colonel, check out the bare blades sold to those who prefer to add their own scales. Many of those are quite servicable as boot knives.

And what if one of the people replying happen to be a Police officer in CA?

I believe then it would be their business and the advice they gave would be very relevant.

For the record I'm not a cop, nor do I live in CA anymore. However my advice was quite serious as him carrying a boot knife is going to be illegal anywhere except on his property. Check the laws, a boot knife is going to be considered a "Dirk or Dagger" and your SOL on that. Besides in CA a damn steak knife, or a knitting needle can get you arrested if you conceal it anywhere other then your property.

In CA, the poster said he wanted a boot knife, a boot knife would not be considered a dirk or dagger which lies under P.C 12020, since the boot knife would have a hand guard, thus for an example the cold steel counter tac I or II has a hand guard. Also heck maybe colonelX is a peace officer, who knows i'm sure he/she is an adult which accepts his/ her responsibility for self defense and is aware of the laws that restrict his/ her freedom to protect, and preserve his/her life. So colonelX, for my suggestion i have the counter tac I, which i would say is big for a boot knife, maybe try to smaller version the counter tac II, or gerber!

From the CPC, defining dirk or dagger:

(24) As used in this section, a "dirk" or "dagger" means a knife or other instrument with or without a handguard that is capable of ready use as a stabbing weapon that may inflict great bodily injuryor death. A nonlocking folding knife, a folding knife that is not prohibited by Section 653k, or a pocketknife is capable of ready use as a stabbing weapon that may inflict great bodily injury or death only if the blade of the knife is exposed and locked into position.

So, having a handguard is irrelevant.

I have enforced the CPC as a law enforcement officer. It's a very bad idea to carry any fixed blade knife concealed in public. A folder in the pocket is a much safer bet.

about the only time I can think of would be if you wanted to carry a knife that was easily available while in a more or less sitting positon. especially in some kind of vehicle, where waistband or pocket carry may not be as easy due to seatbelts, the seating positon, protective clothing and simmilar.

past that, it's really a deep concealment option, acting as a backup blade to other options (folding and fixed, in beltline, or above the beltline positions.) or just a bit of a collectors peice as annother style of knife to have.

Nevermind my original post -too late.

Have you considered the Izual? If you go with a folder, it would seem more comfortable in pocket.

what is your primary use for the knife? EDC, defensive, work?

PS. It really would be a good idea to learn about CA penal code 12020. It does state that unless you are authorized, you cant have a fixed blade boot knife (unless you dont conceal it:p)

Nothing wrong with the man wanting a boot knife. It's whatever floats your boat. The RC3 would make a great boot blade and comes with an add on boot clip.
