So it’s one thing to read about the generosity that floats around the porch, but it’s another thing all together to experience it first hand.

I mentioned on a thread that I would like to get a Barlow pattern knife as it’s a traditional pattern that’s eluded me for some time now, and what does JupiterPaladin JupiterPaladin do? He sends me two that’s what! He even threw in a little keychain flashlight.

I’m really so greatful to have found the porch you guys, nobody in my day to day life gives a hoot about this hobby and you all have made me feel so welcome.

And again, huge thanks to JupiterPaladin JupiterPaladin !

I can safely say that these won’t be my last barlows.

That's how they get ya! You innocently walk onto the porch and ask about knives and someone gives you a Barlow.

At least that is how it happened to me. I asked what a good first traditional would be and @EyeDog up and sent me this beauty:View media item 3562
And that was the beginning of my traditional habit. It's a good place to be.

I love the imperial jackmaster Barlow, it was the first traditional slipjoint I seriously carried since Joining this forum.
It was also a very generous give from R8shell, without that knife and the generosity I'd not be a traditional user and porch poster today.

Copperberry Copperberry hey I'm glad you like them. A similar thing happened to me early on, then the Barlow pattern quickly became a staple in my EDC, and I ended up buying another half dozen or so of the old USA made Barlows.
Which blade grind do you prefer? The Imperial is the standard classic design, bit I think I slightly prefer the wider belly and sharpening choil on the Colonial. Also love that fancy bolster on the Colonial ;)
So to make a short story long, welcome to the porch my friend. It's a great place to spend some time.

As far as the grind goes, I also prefer the Colonial. That said, I think I like the imperial better — it’s just the perfect size and it feels really good in hand. I’m pretty stoked to have my hands on one of the USA carbon steel imperials, too, that ticks another box for me. Though the scrimshaw on the colonial is pretty neat haha. You’re a good man!
