Good Throwing Hawk?

I've never thrown a tomahawk before...
maybe an axe a few years back but that's it.
I suddenly have the urge to throw one. :D
I've been looking around for a tomahawk that is a good thrower but also looks good. A lot of the ones I've seen look very much the same, I want something a little different.
I've been thinking about Chickadee's Hudson Bay tomahawk, Townsend & Son's Octagon Head, Fort Turner's Camper and a couple of H and B Forge's tomahawks (Shawnee, Viking)...
Any advice/experience/opinions to share?
For instance, how easily do the handles break? Especially starting off, I imagine they'll be banging into the target a lot and I'd hate to order 5 extra handles just to have them splintered after 15 minutes.
Thanks very much for your time.

Your question is right up my alley. I really like the Fort Turner hawks. He hand forges them and look really sweet (meaning - deadly). The Buck Hawk throws the best. I also like the hammer pole version, but find that it can get a bit heavy after a bunch of throws. His handles are awesome too. I've gone through a few, but only due to stupidity and splitting them with my second throw. Just remember, your first spin is 5 paces and every turn after that is more 4 paces.

More than anything make sure you have a good target. Rent a chain saw if you have to. A large log round 2 to 3 feet across and 8 to 12 inches thick is the only thing that will last. I mount mine on a pallet with large lag bolts and make legs out of 2x4's. It's amazing what you local lumber yard throws away! Farmers and ranchers are the best people to get logs from. They are usually very helpful and love to rev up the old chain saw. Offer them $10 or $20 for a few rounds and you're good to go.

It's very addicting, so don't start unless you're ready to put some time in. If you make an order, tell him that Steve from SD sent you. Dana Turner is awesome and ships very fast. Good luck, Steve

Thanks, Steve.
After looking all over the web the Fort Turner tomahawks were some of the ones that I've been taking very seriously. I like the rugged look of them, as well.
I'm still trying to find some better pictures of the H & B Forge tomahawks.
They look good but in some very small pictures... the Shawnee looks quite a bit like the FT Buck Hawk. The Viking Axe is 5 pounds, don't know if I want to throw that around for too long.
The Shawnee and the Buck, which I think I've narrowed it down to, are about the same price.
Thanks for the feedback and the recommendation, I'm leaning towards the Buck Hawk and will definitely tell Dana Turner that your good words helped me in my decision to go to him.

I'm glad to hear you've narrowed it down. H & B are good also. Post when you decide and when you get it. Let us know how your throwing is going. If you need pointers I would be happy to give them. Steve
