Just to compliment Eric's fine thread, I thought I would throw up a little something for us all maybe post some positive thoughts, prayers, and well wishes for the Cantina family as '08 draws to a close.
It is no secret that we have had one hell of a year around here and not to mention around the world. We have lost some very, very good friends of the Cantina. Others have lost loved ones with this being the first Season without their company. We have several brothers and sisters dealing with pain and sickness. The world is in a bit of meltdown. We even have shoes flying through the air at the President of the United States
.
This is just a thread to count the blessing that we do have. It's a thread where we can all collectively wish each other well. And, because this does tend to be a magical time of the year, if you or a loved one or even someone that you know needs a little extra smoke and prayer feel free to post it up. We have all seen what a bit of collective positive thought can do.
For me, all I am hoping for Christmas is one more good holiday with my father-in-law. He is on his way out. He is walking west in time measured mostly in weeks. He is ready. The rest of us to be left behind understand that this is not a BAD thing, though it is a SAD thing. We know that he is going to be welcomed with open arms however that scenario plays out, but it won't ease the pain of Christmas '09 when his big leather chair sits empty and his "grand-dog" searches for his warm welcome lap. However, we also know that when he walks on he is also leaving behind 10 years of treatment. 10 years of fighting that has taken a toil on his body but has allowed him to witness the success of his son who was a bit a wayward soul as well as the marriage of his daughter to a very un-deserving and blessed man. He will go on without cane, without scooter, and with his balance restored. His healthy girth restored to his strong frame and a wide brimmed hat pulled down to shade his eyes, he is an explorer by nature, an active fellow, a doer. Whatever plans there are beyond this earthy form, I know he will not rest, but will not be restless. It's a good thought.
All we want is one more family Christmas. Oh there will be fights aplenty
There will arguments and shouts. This is the construct of their family, of my family. One more season with Dad, please. Just let him feel good enough to enjoy one more Christmas visit. We cannot slow the sands of time, but memories have no expiration date. Please, just let us get a couple more good ones with the time we have left.
To any and all Cantinians, to their families and loved ones, to their friends, I wish a heartfelt Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Happy Hanukkah. Joyous Kwanzaa. Enjoy your aluminum pole all you Festivous observers
We have all be dealt some very hard blows this year. However, we also are so very blessed to have this place and to have each other. I know in my heart and soul that we will get through whatever is thrown at us. We are strengthened by the fiery trials of life. We of the Cantina are a family who look out for one another. This is what families do.
I'll be sending up some smoke and little prayer for you all before the wife, dog, and I make the trip to see her folks on Christmas day.
God bless.
