Just to compliment Eric's fine thread, I thought I would throw up a little something for us all maybe post some positive thoughts, prayers, and well wishes for the Cantina family as '08 draws to a close.

It is no secret that we have had one hell of a year around here and not to mention around the world. We have lost some very, very good friends of the Cantina. Others have lost loved ones with this being the first Season without their company. We have several brothers and sisters dealing with pain and sickness. The world is in a bit of meltdown. We even have shoes flying through the air at the President of the United States;).

This is just a thread to count the blessing that we do have. It's a thread where we can all collectively wish each other well. And, because this does tend to be a magical time of the year, if you or a loved one or even someone that you know needs a little extra smoke and prayer feel free to post it up. We have all seen what a bit of collective positive thought can do.

For me, all I am hoping for Christmas is one more good holiday with my father-in-law. He is on his way out. He is walking west in time measured mostly in weeks. He is ready. The rest of us to be left behind understand that this is not a BAD thing, though it is a SAD thing. We know that he is going to be welcomed with open arms however that scenario plays out, but it won't ease the pain of Christmas '09 when his big leather chair sits empty and his "grand-dog" searches for his warm welcome lap. However, we also know that when he walks on he is also leaving behind 10 years of treatment. 10 years of fighting that has taken a toil on his body but has allowed him to witness the success of his son who was a bit a wayward soul as well as the marriage of his daughter to a very un-deserving and blessed man. He will go on without cane, without scooter, and with his balance restored. His healthy girth restored to his strong frame and a wide brimmed hat pulled down to shade his eyes, he is an explorer by nature, an active fellow, a doer. Whatever plans there are beyond this earthy form, I know he will not rest, but will not be restless. It's a good thought.

All we want is one more family Christmas. Oh there will be fights aplenty:D There will arguments and shouts. This is the construct of their family, of my family. One more season with Dad, please. Just let him feel good enough to enjoy one more Christmas visit. We cannot slow the sands of time, but memories have no expiration date. Please, just let us get a couple more good ones with the time we have left.

To any and all Cantinians, to their families and loved ones, to their friends, I wish a heartfelt Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Happy Hanukkah. Joyous Kwanzaa. Enjoy your aluminum pole all you Festivous observers:D We have all be dealt some very hard blows this year. However, we also are so very blessed to have this place and to have each other. I know in my heart and soul that we will get through whatever is thrown at us. We are strengthened by the fiery trials of life. We of the Cantina are a family who look out for one another. This is what families do.

I'll be sending up some smoke and little prayer for you all before the wife, dog, and I make the trip to see her folks on Christmas day.

God bless.

Well said Jake. Let us all be grateful for small blessings. Prayers sent for your father-in-law and your family.

We'll be heading up to the Hoosier State tomorrow (north of Indy) to spend Christmas with my wife's family. (I'm really looking forward to the "airing of grievances" - a personal favorite. :D) Another tradition - watching at least some portion of the "A Christmas Story" Christmas Eve marathon on tbs. (I want an official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle!)

Maybe Tiny Tim said it best: "God bless us, every one."

Very well said ,jake!
Smoke and prayers so that your dad in law is here for the holidays, to be with those that know and love him best.
And that when it is time....he walks west in tranquility, with dignity.

To all Cantina-ites, friends and families....and to Pala, Yangdu the Kami's and all involved in the extended Himalayan Imports family.

May this season bring you heartfelt joy and happiness, may all our cups runneth over with friendships and love and may our prosperity be allowed to benefit those who are truly in need of good graces. May all of us be blessed this season with good thoughts of those we've known who've left us and with the good people we've yet to know.

Wonderful words and energy from the VERY BEST folks.
We are privileged to have you all in our life. Thanks for all the strength and love through the year. Smoke and prayer and warm hugs to all our friends that have pain or sadness in their lives right now. The quality of this place of peace and learning has enriched our lives:)

Happy Holidays and Good Will

This, indeed, has been a very hard year with sickness and death. But this season finds my family once again gathering at my house and welcoming a new member. I am grateful for the healing that has occurred both physically and mentally and look forward to 2009 being the best year on record!!! :)

It's been a crazy year here, I hope next is better for us, and for yall.
Merry Christmas etc.

What he said + 1.

To all spending the festive season solo of other humans, get online and make posts about your favorite style of blade (Khuk's of course), and may 2009 bring health, happiness and joy to all.

Peaceful holidays, Prayers sent for your father-in-law and your family

Best wishes for the entire HI community.

Red Flower and I are headed down under for a little bit of summertime. You all take care.

Prayers and positive thoughts out for all Cantinistas that are in need... and heck, even those who are not!

I've been truly blessed this year with a great (full-time) job and a wonderful significant other (who'd have thunk it) and her family. It is more than I ever hoped for or expected.

I pray that everyone here at the Cantina is so blessed in the coming year. That'll be my prayer for all... health, happiness, peace, and protection for those in harms way.

Cheers everyone!

There's something that has been bothering me more and more each year about "the Holidays" lately. It really makes me heartsick to see all the bickering and legal wrangling about who is offended by whose religion and where we can and can't have which kind of Holiday display.

I am a Christian. And, pretty much a fundamental one at that. I have no illusions about the historical, cultural or Biblical bases of the traditions that have come to surround the time we've chosen to celebrate the birth of Christ. Nearly all of them were co-opted from other belief systems. Jesus probably wasn't even born in December, and most of our "hallowed traditions" are generally frowned upon in the Bible.

I think my faith, and the community of man as a whole, would be much better served by promoting "on earth peace, good will toward men." - instead of fighting legal battles over practices that really have no meaning unless they do, in fact, promote peace and good will. Maybe if we focused more on those things, fewer people would be offended by our faith.

In that spirit, I wish each and every one of you, regardless of your faith or lack of a faith, all of the peace and good will this world and it's loving Creator have to offer.

God bless us, every one. :)

Red Flower and I are headed down under for a little bit of summertime.

It is starting to warm up nicely. Just remember to 'slip-slop-slap' when out in the sun.

If you find yourself on the NSW Mid North Coast and want some local sight-seeing tips, please email.

Blessings on each and every one of you. May the new year bring you nothing but joy.

It's a good time to be alive, yes? :)

Another year gone by, and I still count myself lucky to have been introduced to, and welcomed among, you all here in the Cantina. I thought I would go over a bit of what I've learned here in just this year alone, but I'd have to be at this computer all day to do that. Each of you here is a wealth of information that I'm just as happy to soak up as I am to have something to participate in. Sincerest well-wishes to each of you and yours this holiday season.

For now, it's a beautiful Florida day, and my dog and I have to go run the beach.
