Hello all,
I'm in the process of moving from Greensboro NC to Middlesboro KY and took a nasty tumble down some stairs Saturday. Busted up my knee and hyperextended my right arm through a sheet rock wall trying to break my fall:eek:. Circumstances where such that I ended up having to drive the truck I had rented all the way to KY with my mangled knee:(. Rough day. What's the good? My KNN lightweight 20in AK arrived before I left. With the help of a friend I hobbled out back to my test stump to christen it. Then I loaded it up and took it with me on the trip to remind me something good can come to you even on a lousy day.:D

This is my favorite so far. It feels incredibly powerful but is QUICK in my hand. Can't imagine a nicer, better balanced BIG khukri.
Love the fullering. Want to get a Gelbu Special now.

p.s. Went to my doc yesterday, sent me hobbling across the street for xrays. Then xray tech tells me they want me to see an Ortho doc today. Still haven't told me what's wrong or given me so much as an ace bandage or a crutch:confused:. Meanwhile I'm having to drive my little stick shift Toyota all over the place in severe discomfort. Just watch that Ortho doc will tell me what an idiot I am for walking on my knee and driving. And watch his head roll- oops forgot this is a family friendly forum.

sorry guys just needed to vent

Patrick

I hope you heal up fast and well. Then you can really give that new khuk a workout.

Patrick:

Welcome to Kentucky, even under lousy circumstances. As along-term "hobbler", just let me say be careful of knees. They take much less as you put on a few years, and some of the dings can come back to haunt you later. Get a good read on your Ortho, as in second or even ninth opinion :p There are some around here who hail from points farther south, where "bone specialist" is a person who scatters them on a table by the full moon, and chants

Watch your step, Patrick, and make the docs do their stuff -- or sue them like everybody else and retire.

Be very careful about what is told you, especially if you have to go into a hospital.

A friend now, every time he enters a hospital, gives instructions that once they give him so much as a pill, he is not competent to sign a single thing, and they have to get consent from his wife, who consults him, and their RN daughter. That got started after an incident to him he today regrets not suing over.

He also saw them try to get a consent from his roommate and get turned down. The guy threw it at them. An hour or two later they'd given him extra painkiller and he was out of it and they came back and got him to sign.

There is a right to be told you don't have to agree to consent, can withdraw that consent at any time even after the procedure is started, and that IF YOU ASK you must be told of alternative therapies. Also other stuff. This is per the Federal Patient Rights act of 1990. Unfortunately it leaves it to each state to implement and Nevada says do it without specifying how. So each hospital gets to do it their own way. And some are very sneaky about it.

I was on 75 mg demerol every 4 hours and they came to me to get consent for a cardiac procedure. I denied it five times before being coerced into signing, in the hope I could reach family in the morning to stop it. ( They got me to sign about 8 pm at night, when an attorney wasn't available. ) I was told verbally I had to sign it. I was at no point told I could withdraw consent.

Sorry for the diatribe.

Thanks for good advice, Rusty, and horror stories to back it up. As I told you the last time you were up to visit I'm just glad they didn't kill me. Had I gone to the VA I probably would not be here today.

Looks like no permanent or serious damage. The xray showed a fractured patella(kneecap) but evidently this is no big deal. Except for the excrutiating pain:eek: ! Swelling is down and mobility is up, lots to be thankful for. Thanks for the good advice and warnings. I work in a hospital so I know all the dangers. And I have more than one aging family member who is suffering the effcts of accumulated injuries from youth. Trying to take it easy and be careful but I have much to do. Can't wait to join my wife in KY! I lived there before in college and really enjoyed the people.

Patrick:D

Hi Patrick, Sorry to hear about your injuries, glad that they weren't any worse. One thing I would advise that you start using now (at least for a year or so) is a glucosamine sulfate and chondroiten sulfate supplement. They are a naturally occuring substances that's in your body already. They are responsible for lubricating the joints and promoting soft tissue growth. My wife and I have used it for 5 or 6 years now and I swear by it. I work with my hands and had gotten to where I couldn't use a hammer or other wrist dependant tools. Started on the Glucosamine and I've been great. The pains not completly gone but I can work again in relative comfort. I also give it to two of my dogs one 15 years old with hip dysplasia helped her and a new family member a one year old Corgi with hip dysplasia. He had started limping at six months, I put him on Glucosamine and he hasn't limped once in nine months. A word of advice about buying Glucosamine supplements, you get what you pay for cheaper is not better. I found one company that in my opinion makes the best supplement out today. It is called Corta-flex. You have to buy it on the web, they are in North Carolina. www.cortaflex.com The product is money back guarantee. And they have a 800 number. The folks there are very helpful and knowledgable. 1-888-378-8383. One last thing if you buy another brand, there are lots of them out there, stay wiyh Glucosamine SULFATE not hydroclhoride the same with the Chondroitin. The former is more user friendly, your body uses that form more completly. I strongly recommend this product and brand I've personally tried and researched a lot of it. Get well soon. :D

One other thing that I thought of after I signed off. The Cortaflex people have included shipping in the price of the supplement and they send it priority mail. So there is no other charges when you buy it. It comes as a liquid ther are 48 servings in one bottle and they have a special two bottles for $48.00. You just take one serving a day after a loading up period of two servings a day for one week. This stuff has a particular micro molecular structure so you absorb 90% of the product as opposed to 10-15% in a tablet form or the other liquids that are available. Hell these people ought to pay me for this.See Ya! :D
