Id like to get a good worker folder.
I have a tenacious and like spyderco designs but this doesnt seem like such a great knife to me because of how i use it it doesnt excel with the full flat ground.
Does anyone know any other knives in this price range that are good workers?
I work in a stock room and i also have a box cutter that i use for boxes but i use a pocket knife for everything else like plastic straps zip ties and so on.
The tenacious the ffg blade is so thin i actually broke the tip off trying to get it under a plastic tie to twist it up and cut it.

Also people reccomend a ontario rat 1 but i dont really have anywhere around here that sells them, around me in deleware they sell alot of spydercos and kershaws a few crkts so if you guys could reccomend for me so when i go to try a knife out at the store i have an idea of what im looking for and not just looking at a wall of 100 knives clueless.

thanks a ton

ED

EDIT: they also have gerbers and sogs

Maybe a Cold Steel Voyager.

ill write it down, from what i see they come in multiple sizes, i didnt write a size down but id prefer the blade to be 4 inches or under because bigger blades are harder to get into tight spaces.

witch size is the best size to get?

im going to make a list and take it with me probablly tomorrow morning and compare and contrast the knives, the owner is real friendly with me since i buy stuff from him and take stuff to him to get fixed so he will let me lay em all out on the counter and compare them all

The Kershaw Needs Work would work well for you.

i actually saw 1 of them last time i wwas in my local wally world, that handle loooks odd, if u have any experence with it, (i also have a spyderco tasman at work i use from time to time to open stuff and works good, they actually deduct 4$ a week from pay and i got like 2 weeks before i own it, i had a choice between a tasman and a native and i didnt care much for the native)

something i forgot to mention is id prefer no assisted opening, i actually hurt myself using it at work before, im not sure what happened but i did it with a gerber so id really prefer manual openers

What about the ffg didn't you like? the strength?

personally i don't like cold steel voyagers. but whatever. It's hard for me to recommend knives because i don't know how much they'll cost in your store. I'd look at what kershaw has to offer, it's hard to go wrong with a kershaw. the skyline is much loved by knife nuts and can be had for $35. i have something called the kershaw compound, it cost me barely anything and is a great knife. get what feels good in your hand.

if u chck i think knife center and those prices the prices are almost identical to that, there very close to the online prices, the only folder i got right now is a broken gerber fast draw lol, liked it until it became a finger hazard, i sent the spyderco back to see if they will fix it for me and yea the ffg seems to lack strength

I wouldn't be too worried about buying knives just to try them. You can generally get your money back out of them selling either here or on ebay.
I came to blade forums in 06 looking for advice on picking out one good folder, and I've gone through over a hundred folders just mostly looking.

seeing that im not rly a knife collector and im gonna use it i wanna get 1 and done i dont wanna get into it with returns

If you just want a good knife to use and not worry about you should pick up a kershaw. The spring on the assisted opening knives can be removed, so that's not a big deal really.

I wouldn't want to spend a lot of money for a good knife and then cut plastic tabs. Although it may sound like heresy, I'd get a CHEAP folder like a Maxum or S&W. I keep one or two of these knives around for various chores and have a $13 el cheapo copy of a S&W Homeland Security fixed blade knife that I keep in the trunk of my car. My wife likes to use the second one to dig up weeds in the yard! The sheath is garbage, but the knife is sharper than one would expect. Some S&W folders are bargains. Some were made to sell for cheap prices and others were intended to sell at higher prices and have dropped because of the lack of demand. If you get the latter, you can get some halfway decent models. Some of the early ones were made of 440C, but the newer ones are nearly all 440A. Cutting plastic tabs is hard on a knife and I don't like using a good knife on them.

Cold Steel puts out some decent knives, especially the Voyager line. The lockups are great, but I preferred the older models with VG-1 steels. Just about everything they make is good for the money.

+1 on the Voyager. I haven't handled the 3 inch versions & don't know how they'd fit medium-to-large hands. I love my 4 inch Voyagers & paid $40 online for them. A newer Byrd Cara-Cara is in my rotation as a work knife & does great for $25. Both are full flat-ground but haven't let me down so far. The Voyagers are stout all around. The Cara-Cara is more of an general purpose pocket scalpel & weighs almost nothing in pocket.

Well, you guys are quite perceptive. I think I've been on the internet and texting people too long as my mind seems to auto-correct grammatical and spelling errors as well as lazy typing.

Kershaw JYD II

not assisted, and one bad ass knife.

there are quite a few non assisted kershaws. You won't find better quality in the price range
