I know we were at the bottom of the barrel for 5.1s, but i noticed the "Available on an upcoming Monday:" on the production schedule did not list anymore 5.1s... Are they gone now for the foreseeable future?

Seems like this, doesn't it? It stands to reason since they already have or are fulfilling their pre orders and production orders all the while last Monday they offered their blemished 5.1 steels as their 2nds (which were all gone in less than a couple of hours). I am now more glad that I bought two of them in both available steel options!

I would think with the 4.7s coming up shortly they will start to look at focusing on the 4.7 2nds though I'm sure if there are any 5.1s left they will trickle out. Might be they aren't listing them to allow people to visit the site and pick one up randomly?

I'm curious, too. It seems possible that we are down to a few seconds left.

I'm still hoping they'll put the necker II's back up, I remember the production schedule saying they'll be back up once they get ahead on the 4.7's.

GSO 5.1 could be their best, wonder why they are not making more of them and make more of us happier :).

Limited human resources and time I would say. They need to give the other models a chance to shine too. They have a bunch of pre-orders for their other knives.

Maybe one day they'll get to the point where they have a couple of models always available, but with Guy's standards (and the fact that he personally sharpens all of the knives himself) I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Frankly, I'm not sure I want that to happen, not many companies are as dedicated to their philosophy and quality as Survive seems to be. I say that as an owner of multiple businesses myself.

There are a lot of factors that go into which knives to make and how many and when. The GSO-5.1 seems like the most popular right now, and it has definitely received the most publicity. But once the GSO-4.1s are shipping out they will seem like the best. Then the GSO-7/7 and then the GSO-10.

It also seems like the more we make, the higher our proportions of 2nds. There is definitely a sweet spot in production numbers. Plus, each run requires a pretty large upfront investment.

I have been following up on the secondary market on eBay for a couple of months now and this past week or so has been the softest which I have seen eBay activities regarding the GSOs. Maybe it is tax time, maybe other factors such as the offering of their own 2nds last Monday. My first hunch would be the latter!

It does seem like during certain times of the year the secondary market goes a bit nuts.
Right now I think folks are waiting for Blade Show.
In the late summer there is a lot of interest building up to hunting season.

Seasonality certainly has a lot to do with it too! I still think that immediately it is a supply & demand curve. For instance, I was eager to get one even on eBay but I was hesitant paying $350 for a GSO 5.1 and when the opportunity arose last Monday, I ordered two of them for a total investment of 2 x $216. I was constantly getting outbid on eBay at around $250 and although I have nothing against profiteering, I am personally more satisfied that my $$$ went directly to S!K.

I was monitoring a few auctions which ended today and although there was no GSO5.1 on the offering block (auction format) a couple of 4's went in the low $200s. I think that $225-$250 (for the 4's) is the sweet spot right now till like you said, the Blade show is upon us and the hunting season commences in the Fall.

P.S. Edit! I just looked again and someone who claims to be selling New and not 2nds, has been consistently selling a GSO 5.1 on the Buy Now format in the $35--$370 range, so I guess that I was wrong with regards to he soft market as I didn't look at the completed sales, just live auctions! In a nutshell, don't pay much attention to what I have to say :D

It's not quite soft, they are selling in a stable range. There is a very small demand for them at premium prices and about 4-8 weeks ago there was a lot of discussion on it. As soon as multiples get posted the price drops to the $300 range, but as they thin out they start to look towards $350 again. I've watched for a while before I sold mine, offered it cheaper here then raised the price to sell on that auction site. I'm sure it's going to change as more models get released, and down the road there will be more to pick from. Finally, without taking the handles off, you can't tell from most of the pics if it is a second or not. Also, some of them look a little fishy. The listing description is not correct. I think people just flogging them because they are selling, and it's hard to get them so people don't know exactly what is correct and what is not. I'm sure there are a % of people getting something other than they thought.
