Goodbye liberal pocket clip request policy

I recently received a couple of used Griptilians with standard pocket clips. I generally prefer the look of the split arrow clips and thinking nothing of it, shot off an email to Benchmade customer service requesting replacements.

“...we will continue to send out two complimentary originally installed pocket clips for up to five knives per year. Any additional or alternative pocket clips may be requested for a small fee. This fee is to cover shipping and manufacturing costs of the clips and screws. Due to rising manufacturing and shipping costs that go along with assembling knives with USA made parts, we have to limit the parts that we send out as a courtesy...”

I went ahead and paid for my non-original style replacements ($5 each plus state tax), but thought I’d pass along the information to anyone not yet aware of the new policy as of April 2019.

Not that I blame Benchmade. People straight up abused the free clip policy.

$5 per clip. The price range is $5-$7 depending on the type of clip you choose. That includes shipping. The rep I spoke with mentioned folks were abusing the policy and reselling their clips.

I caught that after I posted. That is too bad. I know I have a few Black Oxide clips because I had a feeling this would happen eventually. Thanks for the info, though.

I’d be much happier if $5 was a flat price and you could snag a few at once.

Also cheaper than replacing a Spyderco clip. Think it was 8 bucks plus shipping when I checked into a black clip because I bent my chrome. The chrome wasn't free either.

Strange, I remember seeing the "two complimentary originally installed pocket clips for up to five knives per year" thing on Benchmade's website some time back, but it's no longer there. And when I emailed Customer Service, they replied that the policy now is 10 complimentary parts request per year, parts being pocket clips, clip screws & body screws. Well, I guess 2 clips for 5 knives = 10 parts..
