Ive decided that the comic book collection that I've been hanging on to since the mid seventies (about 2000 books) would better serve me by being sold and turned into ....a hydraulic press :D

Talked with Deb about it and I think she's as excited as I am. I have a dealer coming to the house this afternoon to have a gander at my collection. If he tries to lowball me on price I'll sick the dog on him. I've got a big freezer that hasnt had a corpe in it for a while so he better be generous.

I'll start my campaign of whinning about needing a power hammer next. ;)

Mark: To bad you didn't live closer I would help you build a press. It isn't that hard. Mine end up costing me around $800. :D

I'd say that's an excellent decision.

Ha, Mark's got comic books. :D

I've thought about building one. I have some of the items I would need to make it. I may end up building one some day. I just like the idea of a turnekey system from a reputable maker. Seems pretty much every piece of equipment in my shop is crap. Ive looked around and I think it would be hard to beat Ron Clairbornes setup. Just gonna do it.

Okay Michael what's so funny about me having comic books? :)

Do you have Cabage Oatch Dolls too ;) Just Kidding...

I think its a wise decision. You'll get way more use from the hammer and most of all save your shoulder so you can play jump rope ;) I had to slip that in....he he.

Man I have a knock on the old gord coming for sure.

No cabbage patch dolls. but I have one heck of a beanie baby set. I think we'll just line up and form a guantlet for you to walk through at Trackrock Brain. That way everybody can whack you once........or twice.

:D :D :D Your too much!!! :D :D :D

HEll I collected watches to raise money. Now I have 3 left and I am going to keep those. Its nice to have something to raise money with. Greg Covington bought my last one ;( :D for some of the KMG funds I needed.

Might just go ahead and sell off some of my guns and get a KMG too !!!! seing as how Y2k fizzled I doubt I need a rifle for every window in the house.

I did the same with my sword collection when I got into this Mark. I had about 30 swords in a variety of values I'd spent years collecting, then they magically turned into knifemaking tools. Now I just collect dull grinding belts. :D

I'd like a nice 30-30 but my money goes to belts and steel these days. I do have a nice AR-15 for one window Mark. Ruger 41 mag. and a Sig 9mm for the Wife and boy ;).

Sorry Mark, but the mental image of you sittin' around giggling over comic books was too much for me. :D

Mark, you can live without the comic books. If you need a laugh just watch the news. Believe the press that Ron is working on is mine. Yesterday was my first full day of framing the new home for the press. I'm starting to feel like I've been working full time construction again.

Any of you guys with the belt collections I'll trade you 10 used for one new........ :D

Oh well, One dealer down , about nine more to go. Guess I'm going to need more freezer space :)

Good luck getting a decent price from any dealer.

A very good friend of mine use to own a local comic shop for a few years. Through him I got to know many of the other shop owners in my area. On a GOOD day, someone coming in with a collection of 2000 books might get 20% of value for them. That's mainly because out of those 2k books, 5-10% might be quick movers, while the rest are either filler books or slow moving ones. Doesn't matter if each book is worth 5¢ or $50. If they can't sell it, it ain't worth squat.

That being said, I love my comic books yet. :) I have a very large run of the earlier X-Men/Uncanny X-men books, along with a few thousand other "generally crap" books. :) I also have my underground stuff that I love, like Faust (my avatar), Cry For Dawn, Animal Mystic, and anything from Joe Linsner or Tim Vigil. :)

Not all books are funny or for giggling over. ;)

Yep,
I've always said "it's only worth what someones willing to pay for it" I hate the thoughts of just giving them away. I'd be real happy to get at least a third of the value. Oh well . Guess I'd better keep at the physical therapy. :)

I have a couple thousand comics too, but mostly from the 80s - so mostly good for 'wipe. A few that were valuable "back then" aren't so much any more. Pretty disheartening to see what they're selling for on eBay. But one of these days I'll get bored and start auctioning them off...for belts! :D

Hang in there Mark, you might get lucky. If not, and if you're not appreciating them anymore, why not sell em for whatever you can get? I've found it difficult to sell a lot of books at one time. Pick out the Silver Age stuff to sell on eBay and ditch the rest. That'd be my plan anyway - you really need that press doncha?

Mark, why not list them on Ebay? You could set the minimum price etc. I bet you'd get a lot more than any dealer would give you.

Just a thought.

Start a comic book rental business, like the video stores and video mailing clubs. I'm sure the comics are better than alot of the movies they're coming out with nowadays. :D
