The last straw is being told yes we do stock coking coal, but the smallest order is 20 Tons:eek:So this old fool is finally been dragged into the .. I think they call it the 21st Century : and the gas forge . I should say the research bit anyway, plans, burners the lot.A Mate a few miles down the road in the 21st century let me a little book called "Atmospheric Forge & Heat Treat Oven" byWilliam goodman & Robert Holmes published by David J. Gingery Publishing LCC . A quick look through the book show a neat little forge well designed and about the right size : But for the burners they are made from copper tube not sure about this bit ! the book says the two burners work on the same principal as a jet engine venturi effect and can heat the forge from 0 to 2500 F. in 2 1/2 minutes. A 40lb cylinder will run the forge for 16 hours approx .
Now the question have any of you learned gentle folk made one and are the figures ie: 40 lb & 2 1/2 minutes to 2500 F good
Regards

Hi Paul,

I've never made one, but I am a bit skeptical of 2500F in 2.5 minutes. I've read many posts over on anvilfire.com about people making their own and struggling to get it "right" so it gets hot enough. Seems like making a propane forge with a blower is easier to get hot enough.

You may want to consider buying a gas forge. I use one made by Chile Forge, and I can highly recommend it. http://www.chileforge.com/ They have a good reputation on anvilfire.com.

Good Luck,
Mike

Thanks for the chileforge bit , I`ll look it over. The reason for asking about anybody who made one is I live in the UK and short of making the forge ,the cost of shipping etc are unbelievable !!
Again My Thanks Gentleman
