I just downloaded Google Earth so I could snoop on people, noooo, I want to get a good satellite image of the homestead so I can draw in some landscaping ideas. Problem is I can't figure out how to get the thing to zoom in close enough to get a decent picture. The closest I can get you can't even make out the houses in the neighborhood.
How do I zoom in closer????????? :D
Thanky up front peoples!!!!

Well, I have used GE but, sadly, the zoom is only close enough to recognize your home by position, for example....

If you live outside the cities, then often the resolution of the shot is poor.

You might just be out of luck until they take the pictures in higher resolution.

middle wheel button on the mouse zooms in/out.

And you should be able to make out houses as well as cars. Unless you're way out in the country.

I found that I could get better images with Microsoft Live Earth. You don't have to download anything,if you have IE 7 use the map search and it will give you Live Earth. The pictures are much better in rural areas.

You should upgrade to Version 4. (the controls are in the top right hand side). The rendering is better. Click 'About - Check for Engine upgrades)

Google Earth is amazing. I can see the patio umbrella in my back garden. If you go to Havana, Cuba, the resolution is so sharp you can see people standing on the docks!

Depends on the date of the satellite fly over.
Newer is better.

Usually, the satellite imagery is not that stellar... the nice crisp, high-zoom pictures are all from aerial photography.

This is worth trying.

What most folks are saying is quite true. It all depends on the quality (the spatial resolution or 'ground sampling distance' of the latest satellite imagery) of the pics taken in your area. And yes, often the aerial pics are 'better.'

Google refreshes often, but it seems Microsoft sometimes has access to (can afford?) better imagery.

Duh, I found the scroll bar, lol! Plus , as Daniel said, the scroll wheel on my mouse zooms in and out too. Thanks guys!! Couldn't get a decent picture printed for what I want to do but I did get to check out Iceland and the Gallopagos Islands. :D I went to the tip of the Baja Peninsula and zoomed in so close I could see folks splashing in the swimming pool, amazing!
