google email account doing weird stuff

For a while now the person I have been chatting with online, next to their name says "invited" (before that it was either a green dot, or a colorless dot, depending on their online/offline status).

As of tonight, when I send pictures (attachments) with this account, I can't see them or open them when viewing them in the sent email. I do however receive them just fine in a test email I sent to a different account.

1) any clues what's going on and why?
2) any way of resetting/fixing the problem?

email google. it may be fallout from the recent chi-com hack, I doubt it, but possible. anyway any oddness they should be informed about.

There seem to be a lot of hoops to jump through on their site to get to email them.

true, but it keeps their traffic down, so they can actually deal with real problems
