Google Fu: Searching Specific Subforums?

I usually search bladeforums via google:

(search term) site:bladeforums.com

I've been trying to determine how to search a specific subforum-- most often, Traditional, but others as well.

Looking through the Advanced Search options via the link in the site's header bar, I don't see the ability to select anything more specific than "forums."

If I try the same syntax as above using the Traditional forum's "front page,"

(search term) site:http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/773-Traditional-Folders-and-Fixed-Blades

the search results are pages within the Traditonal subforum, not specific posts.

Is there a simple way to achieve what I'm attempting?

Thanks for any help!

I cant help with the question but I would like to thank you for searching instead of just making a new thread.:)

It's easy. When you click on Tech Support just copy the URL.

So using site:ww.bladeforums.com will search the whole site

Using

site:ww.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/679-Tech-Support-General-Q-amp-A-Site-Feedback-amp-More will only search threads in Tech Support. :)

Yes I left "w" off on purpose.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you, but I believe I tried that, as noted in my original query (I'm not sure if you're joking, but leaving off the 'w' results in no-thing), and the results are entire pages from Traditional (ie, page 468, page 309, etc.), not individual threads (let alone posts).

What am I missing?

Clearly I didn't read you post correctly the first time. :p

Hmmm...I'm not sure you can do what you're asking.

I left off the "w" so the the links didn't get truncated.

pertinux, if I understand correctly, you are wanting to search posts within a specific subforum? I'm not sure if this answers your question or not but here's what I do.

Look just above the listing of threads on the main page of any subforum. There is a grey bar there. On the far right side of the bar there is an option to "Search Forum". Click on that, type in your keywords, select "Show Posts" and click the "Search" tab.

This will bring up all posts within that subforum that contain your keywords. When you select a post to read, it will open up the entire thread but if I remember correctly, your keywords will be highlighted.

Not sure if this is what you are asking but I hope it helps.

Thanks, Rick! Yes, you understand me correctly.

Unfortunately, I'm still not following you. On the far side of the grey bar I see the blank search field, with the word Advanced Search underneath. Where are you seeing/clicking an option to "Search Forum"?

Or do you mean, click Advanced Search (under which I now do see the option to select a specific subforum, so maybe that's my previously-overlooked answer right there)?

Your way sounds simpler, however, so I want to make sure I'm understanding you.

Thanks for trying, and for any additional help. :-)

On my screen the "Search Forum" (grey bar) is just above the Sticky's on the main page of any subforum. Right above "Last Post By".

My guess is that if you are not seeing this, something in your settings needs changed regarding the way pages are displayed. Unfortunately, I don't know what that setting would be.

Well, I'll be-- there it is! I was looking at the (blue-)gray bar closer to the top of the screen.

That "Search Forum" tab is exactly what I've been looking/hoping for.

Turns out, I just needed to adjust a brain setting!

Thanks again for your help.
