Programs such as NASA's World Wind have made checking out satellite views of your neighborhood possible. But Google is making it easy.
The search engine unveiled a beta service on April 5 that allows users to type in an address and see a satellite view of the property. It's the outgrowth of the company's purchase last year of mapping company "Keyhole".
Available at maps.google.com, users type in an address and receive a detailed map of the location. Clicking on the satellite option in the right-hand corner offers a satellite view.
There have been a few privacy concerns raised, especially because Keyhole initially was funded by the Central Intelligence Agency.
Google says those concerns probably are mostly unfounded. The service doesn't zoom in close enough so users can see people on the ground, or even vehicles.
Just type in your address and hit "satellite" in the upper right hand corner.
Here's my house in Arvada, CO. See me? I'm on the porch, waving.
