I recently purchased an excellent History Channel VHS video titled "The Warrior Tradition: The Gurkhas." It was really outstanding and often discussed the importance of khukuris to Gorkha warriors. I purchased the video from AandE.com for about $20. I mentioned it to Uncle Bill and he agreed that other forumites might be interested. I really consider the $20 very well spent.

If you have any questions about the video, please feel free to email me.

The other good one is just called "The Gurkhas" (sorry about the spelling Pala) and it's part of the Elite Fighting Forces series. I got it on line by searching under videos. There is also a great one in the UK that I am still trying to get my hands on and will pass it along if I am succesful.

John, I'm trying to locate a source for purchasing the video you mentioned, but so far have not been successful. Any specific information that you might be able to provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The one that John Powell mentions is a great piece - I got it when John first posted the info on the forum some time ago. Liked it better than the History Channel one. It has good clips showing the British Gorkhas in training, including one showing them demonstrating to the officer candidates in Sandhurst (I think), as well as interviews with the British and Gorkha officers. Of course, also includes some good shots of various khukuris - old style pieces, Kothimora ones, as well as those worn by the troops today.

Unfortunately, I can't recall the site where I picked this up, John knows.

AT LAST!!!! I finally located a source for the Elite Fighting Forces video: "Gurkhas," that John mentioned. The source is International Historic Films, Inc. If anyone is interested in buying a copy, you can just email me and I'll be happy to send you the link. The cost, including shipping, is about $35.

I have a Warner Brothers Series called: "World of Valor: Special Forces" Each tape covers two military units. One of which has the Gurkhas and Turkish Commandos.

I have others like the French Foreign Legion, British and Neatherlands Marines, German Airborn, IDF hostage rescue and others.

Trouble is it's in that European code and I only got to watch it once while abroad. So if anyone wants a tape to convert, send me ten bucks. You get it for free if you send me a converted copy.

Hey Goat,

I'll take you up on the offer. I'll convert it and send the converted and original back to you. I'll be away for about 1.5 weeks, so if someone else takes your offer before then go for it.

By the way what kind of firearms are the Gorkha/Gurkha's using.

Will
