I like both designs and feel they each will excell in their own way. The first design is overbuilt and is a beast. These are more in line as a traditional hatchet.

The two in the picture came to me - one for me and one for the son. I have used mine a bit and found it a solid tool. There is no question they will hold up to dang near any type hard work. They chop well for a small tool and can also be used as a knife by gripping up behind the edge. And they hold an edge wonderfully. Scott definitely has the HT on A2 down perfect. I was extremely pleased with edge retention after chopping in very hard dry wood.
