I've come up with a second design based on some suggestions from Kevin Estela, Marty Simon, Big John and Jerry/hayseed45. They all tested the original Gosshawk extensively last week during a basic survival course at Marty's WLC. The changes that have been made are minor with the biggest change in the handle shape. It's the same thickness and overall size. Changes that were made are straighter bearded area at the bottom of the cutting edge, 1/2" longer pole, 1/4" less on the handle width and of course a more curved handle. They liked the original but felt these changes would help in the overall design.
So, I'm offering those who are one the pre order list the choice of either design. I just need to know which you will prefer so I can get these started.
I personally like the original design and feel it will be great as a hunting hatchet but wanted to give the choice of the two designs.
There is no change in pricing or sheath design.
I attached a pic of the second design.

Scott,

This looks great! It really came out exactly as I hoped it would. As Scott mentioned, the original design is good and I felt like it would make a good companion for a hunting hatchet. This design is a proven small hatchet design and I think it will be a real winner in the hand. It is great to have a good friend like Scott with the patience to listen to our feedback and work on the design with everything in mind.

Nicely done my friend!

Thanks Kev. I really appreciate you guys taking the time out to test it. Even though I feel the original works well, the second design will add to the mix giving an individual a choice, mainly in handle shape. I think both will have a useful place in the timber.
Thanks again bro
I wanted to add that the original design will be called the Gosshawk Hunter, the new design, the Gosshawk Woodsman.

IMO, the beard should look just like the GB mini below. The one on the mini is perfect. As for the handle, that's a personal preference thing. I personally prefer straight handles because I feel they are more accurate but some really like the curved. If I were to have you do a hawk for me it would look like the one you have there but with a curved beard and a straight handle. YMMV.

shotgun, thanks for your observations. That's the problem with designing one of these. There are so many opinions and perferences for design that to make one size fits all is impossible. The same is true with knives. Cutting tools are personal items and to have one that works for everyone is a tough proposition.

Scott, you'll have to post the picture of the new one. It came out great!
