I'm considering ordering a Gossman Spearpoint Tusker with a 6" blade. Should I go with A2 or O1? What properties does each steel have? Which one is considered a "tougher/stronger" steel?

You can't go wrong with either steel. A2 is alittle tougher then O1 according to the charts but you will never notice much difference between the two in the field. A2 has more chromium then O1 and even though it will rust if not cared for, not as quickly as O1. Both are easy to sharpen and hold an edge well.

I am a big fan of Scott's A2. Everything I have from him now is A2. Tried some of his O1 stuff and is is good. But I like the higher chromium of the A2 for the extra rust resistance. So the O1 stuff I have had has moved on.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd go with A2. I like O1 and have beat it to hell and back, but I like A2 better.

I also like A2 because of the extra rust resistance. It will rust, but not as fast as O1. It's easier to care for in the field, I've never had an A2 knife get rusty while camping, but sometimes O1 does unless you are careful with it. Especially if you are going to be near the ocean with it I'd get A2.

I love O-1, but Scott seems to have a way with A2. I have blades of his in both flavors and they are both excellent. I kinda like the way O-1 develops a patina with time and use though.

A thing of beauty, but meant to be used!

Nice job Scott. Love the spear point with the stainless guard, it's lke a modern Kephart on steroids. Great job. Congrats to K Williams, you have a knife that will last a lifetime and then some. Have fun with it.

It's not a BBT. Just a regular Tusker: 6" x 1 1/2" x 3/16". Black canvas micarta, stainless pins & guard.

Thats a nice Tusker congrats and i really like the dimensions you picked out on this knife. It looks like a perfect knife to have for the outdoors and in A-2 also great choice too.
