Got $300 to spend on my first nice hand crafted fixed blade. Looking for something with a 4-5" blade, with sheath. Gonna use for hunting and such. What's the crowd recommend?

Gravelle knives!

He makes a tank of a knife for super cheap. I am extremely pleased with mine. I ordered a custom HUK.

I would take a look at Bob Dozier. He makes some of the best practical hunters out there. Hopefully you can find one at an authorized dealer otherwise the wait is close to three years for a custom order.

Yeah I really like the KS-7 dozier. But can't find one.

I recommend a Bob Dozier as well. A.G. Russell sells the Professional Guide Knife. Slightly shorter than the KS-7 Wilderness, and may be a bit more popular, and has a more ergonomic handle that the Wilderness. Both are excellent knives though. I highly highly recommend the Pro Guide from A.G. Russell, a great all round knife and an excellent first Dozier. Whichever Dozier you buy, you won't regret it, if you end up buying one that is.

I would chat with David Williamson. OTK here, owner of Ozark Tradition Knifeworks. He could make you a blade in most super steels in your price range.

well, if you have an extra $50, and wouldnt mind a production, id recomend the ZT0100

s30v steel, i think, 5 inch blade, g10 handle

I feel that the Swamp Rat Ratmandue, is a superb value within that price range. 52100, is excellent steel, and you'd still have enough left over to get a quality sheath.

My finest fixed blades have come from Bill Akers of BACKWOODS KNIVES. I bought a beauty, and then I bought a smaller beauty. Both are great, but I'm tired, retired and seldom go anywhere...other than to the mall. But I do wish to keep one. We are allowed to show our signature at the bottom of our post, indicating which we might have for sale. You might check that out sometime. The KnifeMakers section has beautiful knives advertised on a daily basis, and they have a special section for fixed blades.
