New to the forums here, been browsing a while. Wanted to say awesome site
But anyway, just got a Benchmade Vex today. This is only my second BM (first being a 9050), and though it's a red class, it seems to be a very good knife.
I am not really a fan of liner locks, but this one seems to lock up really well. The handles are really nice. The coating of the blade is a gun metal gray and I think it looks really good.
I am not a fan of the belt clip on it, but I can live with that. I didn't pay much for it since I used a gift card towards it.
All in all it appears to be a great knife and I will start carrying it and see how well it does.

The Vex IS a great knife, but many on this forum hate it because it´s made in China. The build quality is awesome!

A good knife is a good knife whoever makes it. Good luck with your purchase. I got one a few months ago and like it very much. Good bargain too.

The Vex models tend to get little respect because of their Red Box Chinese heritage. But let me say this, I've used both the standard and tanto versions of the Vex and I'd put these knives up against knives running two to three times their cost. Remember, Benchmade 'don't make no junk'. They have a reputation to uphold even with their price-point knives. If these same Vex models were produced in THIS country, the price would likely be triple what they are now. Benchmade maintains a quality control component no matter where the knife is produced. They are (the Vex models) or were, I should say, one of the most undervalued of the Benchmade lines. IMHO of course.

Built by whom?

I have played around with several red class knives and while they are worth their price they are, ultimately, worth their price. At least, that is my opinion on the matter. I would say they are good knives for the money. But that may not be good enough for everyone, personally I look for good knives with no qualifiers.

I would suggest that my reluctance to purchase a red class knife or other cheap but cheerful blade has more to do with my buying preferences than jingoism towards chinese/taiwanese products.

I got my first Vex last week. I liked it so much, I just bought another today. The blade takes a very nice crispy edge quite easily. The subtle recurve is rather cool, as are the gunmetal colored blade, liners, and clip. I prefer the handle ergonomics over either size Griptilian. It is actually my first liner lock, and while not as slick as the Axis, it is still very easy to open and close one-handed.

All I can say is that it's too bad the Vex got discontinued. They should have just shifted to U.S. production, and hiked the price a bit. Maybe up the blade steel, and make it a frame or Axis lock, and make it a blue class knife. But the basic blade and handle design are definitely worth keeping in their lineup.
