Placed an order 2 months ago for a anodized BM42 to play with because my other BM42's are numbered pieces, and to my surprise they sent me a Pre-Production BM42A.

Immediately phoned the store to send me another BM42, one that is not anodized with plain blade. If I get a regular one then I have a piece to play with, if it turns out to be another numbered piece... another one to the knife drawer.

I know I should enjoy playing with my BM42, but I still remember Chuck Gollnick's comment in this thread to keep those numbered BM42's NIB.

I hope they send me a piece I can play with because my budget for knives is running low and I want to play with a BM42.

Wait, if I remember right, didn't you already have 2 other numbered 42's? Also, didn't you get those 42's once they came out? Man, if you still haven't flipped one...

Yes Dave..I got three First Production BM42 when they came out. I started playing lightly with one of them until people started talking about the collectible value of numbered pieces. I wanted to buy a regular BM42 after that but decided against it because of reports of problems with that batch of production models.

Thinking that the market may have consumed all of BM42 from that batch and Benchmade may already have corrected the problems of earlier production batches of BM42's, I decided that time is now right to place an order for a BM42.

The Pre-Production piece that I got was really a surprise to me because I thought all of those numbered pieces were already sold to others.

I just received a UPS Ship Notification that a package coming from the knife store is now in transit. Hopefully this one is a piece I can play with.

nice!

I plan on getting two; one for normal practice and one that stays in its sheath almost all the time

2d_edge, very cool.

if you don't mind me asking, where did you order from. i'm in upstate NY and noticed a fair amount of sites that won't ship to NY.

i find this strange, as i can't find any penal codes prohibiting balis. the '87 case under 265.01 specifically states that balis are not to be considered under 'gravity knives' or other such devices. are there local ordinances in NYC or elsewhere?

nice piece,

rob

Darth... having a spare of the coolest production balisong today is not bad. My original idea when I ordered for the 3 BM42 was to have 1 for regular use and 2 for spares until that collectible bug hit me. Right now I'm thinking of having a regular production BM42 and alternate BM42A for my flippin balisong. This means I have to buy another anodized BM42A for this, that is if that BM42 on its way to me is a regular production balisong. Oh well...

Rob you have mail. I hope you get your BM42.

well the second one wouldnt be used that much; just for when I need a serrated edge. that and I dont have enough for 3 BM42s
