The shop foreman, Mike Young, at CR Knives called me today to discuss my preferance of ivory in my small Classic with spiralgraph stainless Damascus blade that will being shipped on Monday of next week. How refreshing to hear from the man who is putting the knife together himself. I chose a darker ivory to contrast with the Damascus blade. It should look nice.
One thing that really impressed me was how they were trying a new procedure for etching the Damascus blade for better ware. Mike told me this was one of first blades to be done like this. I guess the blade is first etched in the normal fashion and then coated with a hard clearcoat finish similar to Kalgard. Pretty neat! I'm so excited. The knife is actually being finished months ahead of schedule. Sweet!
