Got up this morning, took my 8yo daughter for a manicure (man, my nails are lookin fine!) then took off to a surplus store about an hour away from me.

They had some nice knives! I couldn't take the time to photo them separately so I snapped a few bad cabinet shots.

What you can't see are all the CS, Emerson, Microtech, SOG, CRKT and others. They had an excellent selection by my standards.

My favs were the Spyderco Tuff (wow!) and the Benchmade 300sn. Whoever says the flipper doesn't work well on the axis knife is weird imo. I loved it.

It was soooo hard to walk away from that sprint pm2!

I've only got to handle one 300sn and the flipping action on it was non existent. That's cool that they had such a large selection locally.

I would have been there for a couple of hours really annoying the employees asking to goof with everyone of those knives before I left....lol.

Where is this place? I'll pay for the Mountain Dew......who'll pay for the gas?

Yeah, that's what I've read a few times. This one didn't seem to have particularly strong springs or anything. I figured I'd need to pre-load the flipper like crazy just to get it to open without any wrist flick. Nope, just a regular flip had it snap open perfectly. It's a very nice knife to me. I'm getting one without a doubt. I will certainly dye the scales like I did my Southard though. That brown is just icky.

Btw, it was awesome when the lady behind the counter asked to see my knife. She was like "ooooooh... never seen a SOUTHERN before!" Haha Southern. Whatev's she was super nice and knew more than 99.9% of the dudes I know. :D

I can't believe you had the self-control not to buy at least one knife! I'm not I would have...

Oh such a drool worthy selection there. If I lived close to a shop with that selection they would hate me. I would go in every day and just look at everything. Man I wish Indianapolis had more knife shops (or I knew where the few here were... Google doesn't help).

The BM 300 flipper is not the best flipper! Its a very nice knife though. Basically a Grippie with a flipper tab added on there!

Id pick up the tuff and stand there oogling over the breeden rescue as its now disco's and the price will probably rocket like the captain :o

The Tuff is one that I will be picking up in the next few weeks.

Then immediately after, the Bradley, which is just plain sexy.

But I truly wish I had a store that carried that kind of selection anywhere near me.

Even traveling an hour away won't get me a grand selection of Productions.

Ugh I need a Tuff!!!! I swear I would be done with knives for a year.
Maybe that will make the knife gods send a Tuff my way.

Yeah the Tuff was actually a bit surprising. I expected solid, and big, and heavy...

All together though it was very impressive. The build quality was outstanding. The f&f and especially the milling were outstanding. Ergos felt good for the short time I had it in my hands.

I'm seriously thinking about trading my Southard for a Tuff.

Aside from the knives I'm proud of myself for walking out and not spending any money. They had about 8 or 10 more of those glass cabinets filled with goodies. The place is huge and has roughly 1 billion items that I wanted. From nice watches to gas masks to many different colors of paracord and yeah... a LOT of stuff I would have killed for as a teen! The place had freakin TANKS out front. I don't mean models, I mean actual tanks!

Great pics Strigamort! Thanks for taking and posting them. I'm glad you took group/display-case photos rather than photographing them individually, that's what I call "knife-porn", it's a "knife-orgy".

I haven't been in a knife store (or any store with a real knife selection) since 2008 (last time I bought a knife) and when I see those pics it brings back old memories and old feelings I had forgotten about. I feel like a recovering alchoholic who's been sober for 5 years and I'm looking at the inside of a liquor store (but in a good way;)). Seeing so many ready-to-buy knives in one place always gives me "the itch".:D

Tulare, CA.

Let's see. If I leave now, Columbus is seven hours west, so I can be there in about five days.

Gasoline is $3.75 a gallon, so...

Well sense where talking about knife stores....if you're ever in bend Oregon check out renaissance revival it's a great place..it used to be right next to my UPS store so I'd go in there and check out the knives (this was when I wasn't really into knives, I just liked looking) but I remember blue benchmade boxes and red kershaw boxes ect......keep in mind this was a few years ago and i dont know what its like now...any way google it if you're ever in the area!

Oh man, I'd be broke as joke after a visit like that. I just ordered that very same sprint PM2, you are clearly a stronger man than I am.
